Stephen "Wooster" Dewayne Lee

of Jonesboro, AR

October 28, 1955 - November 27, 2018

Stephen Dewayne Lee (aka- Wooster), age 63, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in Harrison, Arkansas. Steve was born in Kansas City, Missouri October 28, 1955, to William (Jim) and Shirley Lee.

Steve attended elementary school at ATC Demonstration School and Sally Cone in Conway, while Jim and Shirley were enrolled in Arkansas Teachers College. Stephen was enrolled at Harrison School from fifth grade thru high school having graduated from Harrison High School. Steve earned his Bachelor's in Agronomy in 1978 and his Master's in 1980 from the University of Arkansas (woo pig).

He loved music and used it as an instrument of love and affection towards his family and friends both recreationally and professionally. Steve, Keith and Laurie loved donating their time and talents for many occasions. He was a lifelong Goblin fan; loved football, golf, fishing and jam sessions. His favorite hobby of all was just simply spending time with his dad whom he honored and loved every day of his life. Steve cherished his family and most of all his wife of 42 years as the perfect soul mate. His boys Zach and Tyler Lee will forever cherish how their dad lived his life by example.

Steve married the love of his life, Arleen Risley, on May 29, 1976, in Harrison. His career began as an agronomist for Mobile Chemical Corporation beginning in 1980. He also worked for other companies including Rhone Poulenc Ag Company, BASF, Cerex Agri and Bayer/ Monsanto. During this time he worked for Magness Toyota family whom he grew to love so dearly.

Steve is survived by his wife, Arleen Risley Lee; his children, Zach and Shari Lee and Tyler and Melissa Lee; his brother, Keith Lee; and his parents, Jim and Shirley Lee; and his mother-in-law, Hope Risley.

Steve is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Tim and Ronnie Risley; his grandchildren, London, Skyler, and Beckham Lee; his nephews, Cole and Laura Lee and Alan and Jamie Risley; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Zoe and Charlie Kate Lee and Tripp, Eli, and Nate Risley; and his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention, and all of his musically talented friends and musicians coast to coast.

Steve was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Laurie Rich Lee; his father-in-law, Walton Risley; and his grandparents, Ernie and Caroline Price and Ceaf and Pansy Arnold.

Our family wants to thank the many friends and family who have reached out to comfort us in this most difficult time. We are so proud of the legacy Steve left behind.

The family also wish to thank Dr. Roy Lee and Dr. Will Hurst for their care to Steve.

Visitation was 11:00 to 1:00PM, Friday, November 30, 2018, at Woodland Heights Church, 1001 Gibson Road, Harrison; with funeral service at 1:00 PM with Bro. Heath Kirkpatrick and Rev. Arlis Thrasher officiating.

A private burial followed at Maple Leaf Cemetery.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Steve Lee- what a fantastic fellow. Certainly his most forward personality trait is kindness. It was a rare moment indeed to see him frustrated or down, but he was never without a warm greeting to all he met along with a kind word. Steve loved his time on earth amongst all of his many friends. I am honored to be one of them. Steve is a powerful man of faith in Jesus Christ, kept his bible in his truck and with him on business trips, and was eager to speak of the faith God gave him. Like far too few in this world, he lived out the words of Paul in Philippians 2:3-4-

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Steve lived this verse out better than anyone I know.
We’ll see you soon, buddy.

Arlene, I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He had a heart as big as a mountain. He was a great friend and colleague. His sense of humor and encouragement helped me get through graduate school. His quickness to laugh always made me feel better. I cherish the friendship and support you both gave me through that time. Our spouses are in heaven now, but they are always with us in our hearts, in all that they taught us, in the families they left for us, and in spirit.

I got to work with Steve over the last 10-15 years. He was always a pleasure to be around. He always had a smile on his face, took time listen, took time to tell a story, etc. Sure we got our work finished, but it didn’t feel like work when Steve was around. We need more people like him in this world.

I bumped into Steve a lot. I remember him being the last person to leave a weed tour. I remember him developing an outstanding protocol that resulted in great weed control. I regret knowing that he loved the Buffalo river, but that I never canoed with him. I am glad I got to see the man play: He was TALENTED! But we had a special little link. I heard he was job hunting. I sent him some leads (none of them actually panned out). Next time I saw him he was incredibly appreciative- "What do I owe you" he said. "Well, maybe, someday you will help me get a job." Guess what...that's exactly what happened and I harbor tons of appreciation! Super guy! Great knowing you, sir and peace and prayers to your family.

Lee family - It was with great sadness that I heard about Steve's passing. Having known Steve for 10 or so years, I want to echo a sentiment expressed in an earlier post. Steve was one of those rare individuals in this world that made you feel good being around him. Although Steve and I spent some quality time in cotton fields together, what I will cherish the most are the memories of playing music with him. Such a gentile spirit, but a ferocious musical talent. He will be missed, but what a great legacy he has left with those of us who counted Steve as our friend.

It felt like someone hit me in the gut when I heard the news. I've know Steve for about 10 years, have had the pure pleasure of playing music with him several times and kept in touch about his effort to get his Martin guitar refurbished. I'm so sorry for his family, friends, and for all of those he touched through his musicianship...with me being one. God just took on a fine musician in his angle band. I will miss him.

Lee Family,
I was so sorry to hear the news of Steve’s passing, and pray that God will give you comfort in your time of grieving. I met Steve about 30 years ago at a Beltwide Cotton Conference where we had jam sessions, a tradition we enjoyed every time we were at a meeting together for three decades. He was an awesome guitar picker, but an even better friend. I will miss him greatly.

Sincerely,

Dear Arleen and Family,

Steve was a beloved member of our Agronomic Service Team and we wanted to share our prayers and thoughts with you. Each of us have special memories that make us laugh, make us remember and make us thankful for the opportunity to know and work with him over these years. He led by example on our team just as he did in your family. We are just grateful for being able to call him our friend!

The Lee family,
It is with deepest sympathy that I write this to you. I always looked at Steve Lee as a mentor, but undoubtedly he always considered our working relationship much more personal. This was a sentiment that can be echoed by each of the persons he has mentored, worked with, and befriended along his travels. From getting a lesson in cotton agronomy to fulfilling any song request by a campfire Steve was always a pleasure to be around. Everything Steve did was with the best attitude and a smile that would make even the worst of days better. That is something that my friend Steve Lee has taught me and something I will carry on forever. Condolences. Clay

So very sorry to hear about Steve and the loss of your family. Steve and I had the opportunity to work together for a few years and he always was an enjoyable and willing co-worker.
I know that God made a promise to Steve many years ago. He told Steve that he'd have a loving family, a rewarding career and more friends than he'd ever believe was possible. In return, God asked him to return and be a part of his heavenly community at a young age.
