Dottie Lee Shannon Griffin-Yancey, 68, of Jonesboro passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011. She was born September 20, 1943 at Helena. Mrs. Yancey was a retired pre-school teacher for Desoto School. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and grandmother. Dottie moved from West Helena to Jonesboro in 2008. She married Kenneth Yancey on September 19, 1976 at West Helena.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tollie Jesse Shannon and Dorothy Davis Shannon-McDowell; her sister, Betty Shannon Thompson; and her step-father, A.J. McDowell.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Yancey; two sons, James Robert (Cheryl) Griffin Jr. of Jonesboro and Kenneth Eric Yancey of Jacksonville; two daughters, Kimberly Griffin (Jim) Throgmorton of Jonesboro and Jamie Yancey (Ryan) Ross of Fairland, IN; her step-sister, Mary Lynn (Larry) Keeth of Prattsville; three step-brothers, Johnny (Reba) McDowell of Clarendon, Dan (Brenda) McDowell of St. Charles and Gary (Terry) McDowell of Mt. Ida; six granddaughters, Morgan Griffin, Sarah Griffin, Kellye (Chris) Doyle, Molly Throgmorton, Meredith Throgmorton, and Kennedy Ross; one grandson, Aaron Ross; a great-grandson, Noah Griffin; a niece, Beth Thompson; a nephew, Art (Kim) Thompson; a great-nephew, Henry Thompson; a brother-in-law, A.B. Thompson; three sister-in-laws, Wilma (Jerry) Gordon, Hazel Ross and Freda (Bill) Steingraber; and her beloved therapy dog, Dixie.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Sunday at the Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Funeral services will begin at 2:30 pm Monday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena with a visitation from 1 pm to the time of the service. Rev. Dusty Rhodes will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ken, I am behind on my checking emails, I just read Dottie's obituary. Oh , I am so saddened. Can't imagine Ken without Dottie !! You were a precious couple and had joy in this life. Please let your family know that you are all in my prayers. Jon
