Glen Edward Bryant, Sr. was born September 21, 1924 in Helena, Arkansas to Harry Shoemaker Bryant and Lera Belle Bley Bryant. He died July 6, 2019 in the same room where he was born.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Mickie) Bryant.
He is survived by five children: Jerry Ann Himes, G. Edward Bryant, Jr. (Dione), Norman Bryant (Robin), Harry Bryant (Belinda) and Larry Bryant (Kathy). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Tammy Drennon, Bryant Himes (Jamie), Trae Bryant (Roni), Ivy Phillips (John), Miles Bryant, Elliot Bryant, Greer Bryant, Jim Bryant, John Norman Bryant (Catherine), Molly Johnson (Lance), Rivers Bryant, Nick Bryant and Riley Bryant. He is survived by eleven great-grandchildren: McKenzie Drennon, Natalie Turner, Geb Bryant, John Phillips, Davis Phillips, Edward Phillips, Sara Cate Bryant, Jack Bryant, Allie Johnson, Parker Johnson and Audra Marliese Bryant. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Elsa Mae Bryant, and his brothers, Harry Bryant and Norman Bryant.
Dr. Bryant was a graduate of Woodruff High School in West Helena, Arkansas and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a veteran of World War II and continued to serve in the Naval Reserves for many years. Glen practiced optometry in Helena, Arkansas for sixty-five years. He was past president of the Arkansas Optometric Association, and he received many honors from the Optometric Association.
Glen was an excellent golfer and could often be found practicing or playing on the course that bordered his home. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he passed that love down to his children and grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, often on optometric mission trips. He was on the founding board for DeSoto School in West Helena, Arkansas and enjoyed following all activities associated with that school. As his grandchildren grew, he also followed their activities whether in Memphis, Sheridan or Helena.
Graveside services will be held, Friday, July 12, 2019, 12 noon, at Sunset Memorial Cemetry, Barton, Arkansas. Dr. Bryant was a lifelong member of West Helena United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to that church, DeSoto School or a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr Bryant’s passing. I too was one of his patients who loved and admired him. Got my first set of contacts from him even though he tried to talk me out of them. Eddie and Bryant family you will all be in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with your loss. He was a fine man and admired and respected by so many. What a legacy he left you.
