Sidney Chester Myatt passed away March 5, 2019, in his much beloved hometown of Elaine, Ark., at the age of 84. Chester was born July 9, 1934, in Elaine to Sylvester Curtis and Hattie Viola Cox Myatt
. He is survived by his wife, Opal Jenkins Myatt; son James, daughter-in-law Melanie, and grandchildren, Daniel and Allison, of Madison, Ala.; sister, Roberta Feemster, of Sherwood, Ark.; sister, Betty Wells, of Alexandria, La.; step-son, Gregg Jenkins, of Helena, Ark.; step-granddaughter, Heidi Grace Jenkins, of Heber Springs, Ark.; step-son and wife, Adam and Andrea Jenkins, and step-grandson, Eli Jenkins, of Sherwood; and step-granddaughters, Tatum and Jett Jenkins, of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Wanda Short Myatt; his parents; his sister, Louise Wheeler, of Clarendon, Ark.; his sister, Sarah Major, of West Helena, Ark.; and his step-son, Rusty Jenkins, of Dallas, Texas.
Chester was a founding member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wabash, Arkansas. He worked for Elaine Water Works where he led the expansion of water service to the surrounding areas. He also owned and operated Myatt's Glass and Myatt's Ice Co. in Elaine. He was a youth baseball coach and served on Elaine's city council.
Pallbearers are Cecil Turner, Sam King, Adam Jenkins, David Maier, Tim Lee, and Ryan Moody. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Johnston, Gregg Jenkins, Eli Jenkins, and Daniel Myatt.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena Brother Terry Brown. Brother Dale Gansman will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Roller-Citizens.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I was proud to have Chester as my classmate at Elaine High. In later years he kept members of the Class of 1952 in touch with each other. He set goals for himself and worked hard to achieve them.

Chester was a dedicated member the the Elaine Methodist Church during the years I pastored the church. I always appreciated his wisdom and commitment to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a wise and practical thinker and supportive member. My prayers are with family and friends. He will be missed in Elaine. James, you have helped your dad in so many ways. Thanks for being a great son for both your Mom and your Dad.
