James Richard Pettigrew, 99, a resident of Caulksville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at his home.
He was born August 10, 1920, in Ratcliff to the late Albert N. and Myrtle (Craig) Pettigrew. Mr. Pettigrew served four years with the U.S. Navy Civil Service Commission at New London Submarine Base, Connecticut. He entered private business in Caulksville in 1948 with his brother, Ivo Pettigrew. Mr. Pettigrew served 18 years as instructor at Arkansas Valley Vo-Tech in Ozark. He served 15 years on the Logan County Public Facility Board. Mr. Pettigrew was currently the mayor of Caulksville and served as mayor for 49 years. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caulksville since the 1930's where he served many roles including Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and treasurer. He was also a member of the Logan County Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. (Wages) Pettigrew, two sisters, Lola Barnard and Velma Fortune and three brothers, Ivo, Woodrow and Jep Pettigrew.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Teigan Neumeier and two great granddaughters, Brooke Neumeier and Madison Harper, all of the home; a daughter, Teresa Short and husband, Jamie of Ratcliff; two granddaughters, Allie Short of Ratcliff and Kristin Rieder of Paris; a grandson, Nick Rieder of Ratcliff; two great grandsons, Jace Rieder and Grey DeWitt and numerous nieces and nephews including, Jerry Barnard of Paris, Mike Pettigrew of Paris and Judy Barnard of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, 2019, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caulksville with the Rev. Bill VanMeter and the Rev. Vondal Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Caulksville Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Barnard, Mike Pettigrew and the Caulksville City Council Members: Kedric Paschall, Johnny Culver, Scott Lee, Larry Lux, Mick Mainer and Bobby McCartney. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Ray Core, Haskell Casalman and Jim Peck.
