Mary Ruth and I taught civics together at Lakewood from 1970-78. I am sure to his dismay, Richard had to have me instead of his mother. Mary Ruth was a great teammate as we shared ideas and lesson plans. I worked at the Arkansas Gazette at night during those years and when my promotion meant working days I had to quit teaching. Her kindness to me also included bringing me meatloaf sandwiches for lunch. Susan and I were in a bridge club with Mary Ruth and Buddy until the Gazette closed and newspaper jobs took us of state. So sorry this virus keeps us from expressing personally to her family what Mary Ruth meant to us. I know she is with the Lord.

Like so many other have posted, Mrs. Morgan taught at Lakewood and had the most incredible talent for presenting her lessons in a way students remembered years after graduation. Her genuine love of the subject shined through along with her care for each student. And who didn't know her love of the color purple! What an incredible woman she was, a true class act. Rest in Peace

I was just one of the hundreds of Mrs. Morgan's 9th grade civic students. She truly was a role model to her students as a dedicated educator and civic leader. I am grateful to her that she required her students to memorize the presidents and the capital cities of each state. We all never see purple that we do not think of her still today.

Beloved, wonderful, and special are only a few of the words that come to my mind when I think of my former teacher, Ms. Mary Morgan. She was my most favorite and memorable teacher ever. She took me under her wing in the early 60’s when I was a a bit of an ornery kid, and treated me with total kindness. She was an inspiration to many, and I remember that her students adored her. Purple was her favorite color. Each school day, we would challenge her to find even a spec of purple on her person, and she always succeeded. R.I.P, Ms. Morgan. You’ve certainly earned it and I’ll never forget you.

Mrs Morgan was my teacher at Lakewood. I remember her energy and optimism and all the purple. What she taught me about civics and American government also stuck because of how she presented the information. She taught us those dry facts and then she showed us how to live them through her example of being a good person and active citizen. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Buddy and Richard. Mary Ruth was a friend and mentor to me. As city officials, we had the opportunity to travel around the state to various meetings and conferences. We called ourselves "Thelma and Louise" as every trip was an adventure. It was wonderful to spend the time with her and hear the stories of her life (which was an adventure, too!). Mary Ruth and Buddy loved each other dearly and were the perfect team. RIP my friend. Your friendship and wit will be missed.

Mrs Morgan was one of the pillars of her community; her legacy of serving North Little Rock ranges from youthful students to being one of the leaders of the city. She was a very attractive woman made even more charming when wearing apparel in her favorite purple or adorned in a hat or a top sporting the image of Mickey Mouse. We were all fortunate to have been called her neighbor and friend -- and her presence will be missed.

Buddy and Richard, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Mary Ruth had a tremendous impact on the lives of so many in North Little Rock. As a teacher, she excelled and those who were lucky enough to be in her classroom, were inspired by her. As City Treasurer, she will be remembered for her outstanding service and dedication for over three decades. Her contribution of her time and expertise, helped make the Hays Senior Citizens Center the wonderful facility that it is today. She will certainly be missed.
