Donald Aurel Vogel

of North Little Rock, AR

January 20, 1943 - November 13, 2019

Donald Aurel Vogel, 76, of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2019 at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit. Donny was born on January 20, 1943 in Little Rock to Ruth and Aurel Vogel. Donny is survived by his sister Nancy, Brother-in-law Olan, and niece Allison.

Donny was a Navy Veteran. He served aboard the USS Power DD839 as a Fire Control Technician. After the Navy, he continued his education and graduated from UALR with a degree in Business. He then went to work for the State in Health Planning.

Donny has always loved the cats, and because of this, was a loyal supporter of many animal charities. He was also a staunch environmentalist and contributed to several charities supporting nature and the environment.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and all the medical personnel that took care of Donny while he was in surgery, the SICU and then the Hospice Unit at McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. We would also like to thank the staff at 1B and 1E in Fort Roots for the care given to him this past year.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

I used to work with Don at State Health Planning. We shared the same office. I just found out on Friday while having lunch with our old Co-workers, Nancy Richardson and Laura Brown that Don had died. Nancy saw it in a Sunday paper. I was trying to find his obituary and saw where our boss, Joe Hughes died this past week. I know Joe and Don are having a reunion and swapping stories of the good days working together. Us girls reminisced how we were all friends, not just co-workers back in the day. I remember Joe, Nancy and I had office parties sometimes at one of our homes. Don was always fun to be around. Over the years Nancy would get us all together for a lunch somewhere. We looked forward to the times to be able to visit. I’m sorry none of us knew that Don was sick or we would have gone to visit him. Seems everyone gets busy with life and it passes us by. I’m very sorry for your loss. Don was a truly good guy and I enjoyed working with him.
