Teddie "Ted" Higginbotham

of North Little Rock, AR

March 4, 1948 - May 25, 2019

Teddie ''Ted'' L Higginbotham, 71, of North Little Rock passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born March 4, 1948 in Ventura, CA.  Ted is preceded in death by his father, Teddie P Higginbotham and his mother Ann Elizabeth Seward.

Ted developed a great love for music at the young age of 13. He played alto sax in a family band and was allowed to play one solo a night, ''Mexicali Rose.''  This led him into a professional music career for years in CA and later in AR where he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Pennington.

Ted began a 30 year career with Mad Butcher Supermarkets in Pine Bluff, Monticello and Fordyce where he raised his family and excelled in the management of that store with the great teams he put together.

Ted was very active in Fordyce, donating much of his time in the community as President of Chamber of Commerce, Outstanding Man of the year for Community Service two years in a row and United Way Chairman several years.  He was also Boss of the Year, a member of The Dancing Dyce Square Dance Club, along with Rotary and Optimist Clubs.

Ted worked closely with the General Cooperative Education Program contributing guidance, inspiration and support of the youth activity as a Vocational Educator throughout his time in Fordyce.

He was a Member of First Baptist Church where he was active in the choir and their famous Singing Christmas Tree.

Ted retired from the Mad Butcher in 1994 and after a year of ''Ted and Carol's Great Adventure,'' traveling the US, he started another career in the automobile industry with Premier Auto Outlet in Rogersville, MO and later in Little Rock, AR at Riverside Motors.

He embarked a part time career with Pulaski County Special School District as a bus driver where he touched the lives of many children as he adored the students.  He had to give this up when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

With all of the accomplishments in his life, the ones that meant the most to him were his Faith in God and his family.  Nothing thrilled him more than being ''Papa T'' to his 4 beautiful grandchildren.  He often looked up magic tricks and origami on the internet just to entertain them.  Some of his favorite things to do for family was cook his famous tacos, making sweet pickles, and a very special breakfast he called, Papa T's Sunrise surprise.  We shall carry on these special traditions in his memory.

Ted is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Higginbotham: Son, Bruce Higginbotham of Springfield, MO; daughter, Stacy Begin (Brent) of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren: Gage Higginbotham, Harmony Higginbotham, Bailey Begin, and Avery Begin; stepfather, Robert Seward of Ventura, CA; and multiple extended family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Roller Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116

The family welcomes participation from anyone in attendance during this celebration of his life.

Dear Carol. So sorry to hear about Ted. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Just lets us know how short time here is. Seems like yesterday we were just kids with our families visiting each other. May the Lord give you peace and comfort during this time.

I'm sorry I couldn't attend the funeral today but I wish all of you my heart felt condolences. I worked with Ted for several years at Riverside and can honestly say he was a true gentleman. He always had a smile and was genuinely a kind and sincere man. Heaven is brighter place with him.
