Martha Jean Simpson, 79, of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas, passed away on January 19, 2020. She was born on December 13, 1940 in Trumann, Arkansas to parents James and Eileen Ragland of Memphis, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Chris Thurmond.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving spouse, Jerry Simpson, her children, Gene (Tina) Thurmond, of Proctor, Arkansas, Pat Thurmond, of West Memphis, Arkansas, Daughter-in-law, Karen Thurmond of Atoka, Tennessee, her Grandchildren, Keith Thurmond, of Marion, Arkansas, Bryce (Nikki) Thurmond, of Atoka, Tennessee, Alex Thurmond, of West Memphis, Arkansas, her Great-grandchildren, Hayden Thurmond, of Marion, Arkansas, Linsay, Alyssa, Kylee and Emmalynn Thurmond, of Atoka, Tennessee.
She was the President of the Richland Elementary PTA, a Cub Scout den mother, a Quota Club Quotarian of the year, and a member of the Hughes Garden Club. She worked for many years as an insurance agent with Collier Insurance Agency before retiring.
She was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
She was a loving Spouse, Mother, and Grandmother to her family whom she loved very much.
Visitation will be held on January 22, 2020 at 12:00pm at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, Arkansas with services immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Fellowship Baptist Church.
I am so sorry that I couldn't be at the service with y'all!!! I was out of town today. I am praying for y'all during this difficult time! May God Bless each of you!

Just know that I love all you guys. Gene, Chris, an Pat I all grew up with. Even Tina. So sorry for yalls loss. Jerry brother I truly know your loss. A loss of a spouse is deeper than many rarely know. It’s as if a part of yourself is gone from that day forward. Just know Jerry I’m always a phone call away. God please bless you all and the grief that you all will face in the next day and months coming. Believe in God. Have faith. An his promise we will see Ms. Martha again.
