Richard Edward ''Dick'' Busby, 82, passed away July 26, 2019 in Germantown, Tennessee. Dick was born September 6, 1936 to Clarence and Helen Busby.
Dick began his police career as a City Policeman in Forrest City, Arkansas for a few years before becoming a member of the Arkansas State Police. He served with the Arkansas State Police reaching the rank of corporal. He was elected Sheriff of Crittenden County in 1989 and served in that position for 21 years until his retirement in 2010.
He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church. During his time as Sheriff he received the 'Distinguished Service Award' from Arkansas Sheriff's Association, 'Community Service Award' from Marion Lodge #686, was a member of the Lions Club, a member of the Marion Rotary Club, East Arkansas Peace Officers Association member and served time in the National Guard. Dick was an avid golfer for many years and was proud of having at least 3 holes in one.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shannon Fogg Busby of Marion, Arkansas; his children, Christy Archer (Ted), Marty Smith and Rich Busby all of Marion, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Justin Mancil, Erica Archer East, Micah Archer Jones, Palmer Archer Walker, Hayden Archer, Ryce Smith and Kayleigh Busby; his great-grandchildren, Kyah, Annalise, Braylin, Ella, and Ida Mancil.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Busby; and his sister, Barbara Nell Key.

Growing up my father told me so many stories of his life as a friend of Dick Busby and the dedication Mr.Busby showed to his community throughout his career in law enforcement. He truly served his community in multiple ways with law enforcement. I'm proud to have gotten to know him as I grew up. I would also like to Thank the family for their decision to follow his passion for the love of animals. As director of Marion animal shelter we truly appericate the opportunity to be a recipient of his generosity through others after his passing. Our babies will feel more special as donation will truly help them.
Fly high Mr. Busby you've truly earned you wings and jewels in your crown. We now have yet another LEO as our guardian angel.

I am so sorry for your kids. I first met Sheriff Busby when he was a state trooper in West Memphis. I was taking his daughter to a Jr. High prom. I was scared to death when my mother drove me up to his house so I could pick up his daughter Christy. He looked 10' tall when he answered the front door. I nearly wet my pants. Over the many years since then I was in law enforcement and got to speak with Sheriff Busby several times. He was well known in the law community and was a good, honest, fair individual. Roy Spann

We are so saddened by Uncle Dick's passing. It was such a pleasure seeing him and Aunt Shannon at my Mom's funeral just a few short months ago. It helped everyone to exchange fond, usually humorous, memories of her as a mother and sibling. There are no doubt countless similar memories of Uncle Dick and I hope they bring some relief as they are shared. He was full of life and that is how we hope he will be remembered.
