of Marion, AR

October 24, 1942 - June 1, 2019

Dietmar Strieder, 76, passed away on June 1, 2019 at his home in West Memphis, Arkansas.

Dietmar was born on October 24, 1942 in Lahnstein, Germany. In 1964, he moved to the United States and in 1965, he met and married Linda Gail Bailey. They settled in West Memphis, Arkansas. In 1970, Dietmar established his own German auto repair business, West Memphis Foreign Car Service. That same business, now known as German Auto Tech, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020.

Dietmar enjoyed working outside on his farm and loved traveling, especially to St. Augustine, Florida. He was very proud of his German heritage and was a long-time member of the German-American Edelweiss Club of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Dietmar was preceded in death by his wife Linda, his parents Wilhelm and Elisabeth, his sisters Gisela and Milfred, and his brother Hans-Wilhelm. He is survived by his daughter Christina Smith (Rick) of Norman, Oklahoma; two sons Steven (Cristell) of Proctor and Michael of Jonesboro; two sisters Margarete and Marlene; and his schatze Elfriede Mongold. Dietmar was fondly known as Opa by his 14 grandchildren: Jonathan, Elizabeth, Mallory, Ryan, Bailey, Jonathan, Hunter, Noah, Brilee, Spencer, Finn, Hailey, Haden and Hannah; and his four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2019 at Roller-Citizen Funeral Home in West Memphis from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, preceded by the Rosary at 5:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 411 N. Missouri St. in West Memphis.

Michael, I am heartbroken to learn of the loss of your dad. I always knew I could depend on him to take care of me if I ever had any car trouble. He was a fine, fine man. I am so sorry I will be out of town all this weekend and will not be able to attend his funeral. Please know my heart is with you. I would certainly be there if it were possible.

i was so heartbroken to hear that Dietmar had passed away. Having had the opportunity to be with your families throughout the years before Linda's death and some special occasions afterwards, where Bailey was involved, bring forth memories of both happy and sad times. He and I seemed to meet in the grocery store on Sundays after church to catch up on our families. He was always such a caring, concerned man who loved his family. I know this is a terribly sad time for all of you but celebrate the life he lived, the fun times you all had together and the examples he left for each of you of his faithfulness. Prayers for you and your families. Doris Bridges

We were saddened to hear that Dietmar passed away. We first met when he worked on the 1971 Beetle my sister and I shared. More recently, but for many years, he has let me fish in his pond. In turn I would bring him fish filets, figs, and vegetables from my garden. I will miss our interaction both at St Michael’s and at his home. Our condolences to Steve, Christina, Michael and your families.
