Ruby Gene Barnard

of Kensett, AR

December 14, 1930 - March 23, 2020

Ruby Gene Barnard joined ''thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly'' on March 23, 2020. She was born December 14, 1930 near Rosebud, Arkansas to Grover and Mae Oliver. She graduated from Kensett High School in 1948, that same day she married Harvey Virgil Barnard, beginning a 60-year love story.

Gene is preceded in death by her husband Harvey, her parents, her siblings, five sisters and one brother, her daughter Jackie Post and her great-granddaughter Hattie.

She is survived by two sons Henry Lindle Barnard of Judsonia, and Virgil Gene (Helen) Barnard of Cochise, Arizona; one daughter Karen Sue (Bill) Lansing of Mountain Home; son-in law David Post of Goliad, Texas; 11 grandchildren and multitude of great and great-great grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends.

Gene devoted her life to her family as she and Harvey ran a general store in Kensett and raised cattle and children. Her grandkids affectionately called her Mema or Grandma Gene. She greeted every day and every person with an infectious smile, a kind word, and often a good story that ended with her signature giggle. She took great delight in a good joke or cartoon; really, she took great delight in humor. She was known for her pecan pies and mashed potatoes; her grandkids fondly remember sharing kitchen adventures together as she patiently and lovingly taught and included them.

Having lived in White County her whole life, Gene's knowledge of local history ran as deep as her roots. Gene was the baby of her family, and was very close with her older sisters and brother.

Gene had a generous spirit. She saw God's beauty all around her in nature, especially on the farm and in her flower garden. Gene took great joy in worshiping with her church family at Landmark Baptist Church.

Private family graveside service was held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 and a Memorial Service is planned for a later date to be announced.
