October 11, 1918 - April 16, 2019

Charles W. Milton known to most as ''Chuck'' lived to the amazing age of 100, sound of mind and humor. He was born in October of 1918, the son of a Scottish sailor (who stowed away on an East India trading ship at the age of 13) and his mother who was a great niece of President James Monroe. Flaming red hair, bright blue eyes and a smile that could make anyone instantly feel that they had a friend were his trademarks. He had a heart of gold that sought out anyone in need that he could serve along with his loving wife, Cleo. Family and friends alike have benefited from his selfless acts of service and compassion.

Chuck and Cleo, married 67 years, owned Chuck's Top Shop for over 50 years. People not only came to get their upholstery done but to stand around with a free Coke to shoot the breeze with the Miltons.

Chuck loved his wife, his family and his friends dearly and never met a stranger. He also loved ice cream and made sure there was always plenty in the freezer to share. Lifelong learner and lover of words, he spent many an hour working puzzles and memorizing quotes, poems and medical terms.

During the 100 years of his life he saw many things firsthand that we take for granted today. He saw wars and fought for freedoms of people he never met in WWII. He was an American patriot and always willing to serve whether as a Tech Sgt in the Army Air Corps or as a civilian with the CCC at the age of 18 before enlisting.

Selflessness is the legacy that he leaves with us. His life is an encouragement for us all to be as humble, caring and kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Coral ''Rusty'' Milton Barrows and Barbara Reynen; and two brothers, Clarence and Joseph Milton. He is survived by his wife, Cleo LaFerney Milton; son, Mike Milton of Searcy; daughter, Pam Smith (Scott) of Little Rock; two granddaughters, Hope Smith and Leah Neighbors (Brantly) both of Little Rock; and niece, Shirley Gensemer of Houston, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019 at White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy. Services are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Online guestbook www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/Searcy.

To Aunt Cleo, Mike, Pam, and families. When Uncle Chuck comes to mind, the first thing I see and feel is a smiling face and a kind, sweet spirit. I remember being at the shop all through my childhood, watching both he and Aunt Cleo remaking furniture, car interiors. Such a busy place! And they worked side by side every day! I think they must have know. everyone in White County!
Special Sunday afternoons at Grandmother’s and Papa’s house found the men playing horseshoes and the women gathered round the big oak table, laughter absolutely raucous! Such a big wonderful family...

I'm so sorry to hear of Chuck’s passing. Loosing a loved one is never easy. I recently lost both my parents. After my losses, reading Revelation 21:3,4 gave me real comfort. It says: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And Isaiah 25:8 promises: “He(God) will swallow up death forever.” God’s word offers us real hope for those who have died. I hope reading these verses also gives you a degree of comfort and hope during this difficult time. jw.org

Uncle Chuck was one of the great men in our family. He was strong, caring, loving, kind, handsome, funny and loved all of the children in our big country family as if we were his children. We will miss him so much. Like to think of him arriving in Heaven, lighting a cigar and looking for my daddy Bill. They were big pals through their lives and will keep things hoping in Heaven. God be with all the family at this time. We LOVE you very much.
