Orvis Ervin Pigg

of Suwanee, GA

May 7, 1934 - December 31, 2018

Orvis Ervin Pigg finished his race on December 31, 2018. He was born on May 7, 1934 in Grove, Oklahoma to Ervin and Opal Pigg. He spent his growing up years in Claremore, Oklahoma.

As a dedicated servant of Christ, Orvis lived intentionally and was ever mindful his leadership role as a husband, father, church elder, coworker and friend. He was married to Charlotte DykesPigg for 51 years and together they raised three very grateful little Piggs in a loving environment full of song, laughter and learning.

Orvis was a patient teacher and life-long learner. He spent many hours and endured many tears tutoring his three daughters in advanced math starting with multiplication tables which they thought were totally unnecessary to learn. He dedicated much time and study to teaching high school students the Old and New Testaments for college credit (and without exception they all passed). He could fix anything and was most often found under the hood of a car or up late at night working on school art projects for his girls. He was one of the few certified clockmasters in the U.S.

Orvis held a BS in Mechanical Engineering with aeronautical emphasis from Oklahoma State University and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Houston. He completed his doctoral course work in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston.
He started his work life at Sandia Corporation where he designed handling equipment for atomic weapons. He moved to NASA in 1962 where he spent the rest of his career working in structural design in various capacities for the Apollo, Shuttle and Space Station programs. During his NASA tenure, he most enjoyed his role as the structural glass expert responsible for all of the Shuttle windows.

Upon retirement, Orvis and Charlotte moved to Searcy, Arkansas where he spent his time learning new programming languages, serving as the community ''go to'' guy for fixing computer and clock problems and building/maintaining a biblical resource site that eventually drew an international audience (searchforbiblicaltruth.com).

In 2010, Orvis married Loretta Brown Pigg and moved to Suwannee Georgia where he spent the remainder of his life.

Orvis is survived by his wife Loretta Pigg; daughters Leigh Ellen Lively and husband Dorvin, Leslie Rainwater, and Lisa Ramseyer and husband Chuck; grandchildren Jarrod Lively and wife Julie, Jessica Rodriguez and husband Paul and Lindsey Lively; great grandchildren Savannah Rodriguez and Luke Lively; and sisters Lillian Ford and Mary Ann Linton.

A memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Orvis will be interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in a private family service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Life Resources International. Please make checks to College Church of Christ and designate in memo to Life Resources International.

Lisa, Leslie, and Leigh Ellen - So sorry for your loss. Your parents were such smart and articulate people. My younger years were enriched having known your family. I loved your father's discussions of the special shuttle window design issues and his stories of your camping adventures. I also loved his dry sense of humor.
