of Corpus Christi, TX
May 14, 1935 - January 25, 2016
Fred J. Alexander, 80, most recently of Corpus Christi, Texas, arrived in his heavenly home on January 25, 2016. A lifelong follower of Christ, he was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, widely-respected educator and someone who could pretty much teach himself how to do just about anything he committed to in life.
Fred was born May 14, 1935, near Buck Creek, Texas to the late Emory Clyde and Ellen Matilda ''Tillie'' Branum Alexander. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Alexander Earle and brother, Ruel Wade Alexander, in addition to his wife, Claudette Harris Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Alexander; his and Claudette's children, Joe Alexander, Beverly Burcham, and Denise Runk; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are Kurt Alexander, Brandon Burcham, Larry Branum, Russ Burcham, Jr., Jack Harris, Alex Runk, David Runk, Dwight Smith, and Jack Young. Open visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. immediately preceding the service.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Claudette Harris Alexander Endowed Fund for Children's Literature at Harding University or the American Heart Association.
We have enjoyed a long and sweet friendship with Fred and Claudette and their family. We'll see you soon old friend. --- Joe, Beverly and
Denise: we're sorry! --- Love you.
He will be missed. He was my first teacher of music theory. Also such a neat choir director. I learned a lot about life from him.
I have such great memories of Fessor Fred Alexander. I was just a young girl when my Dad, Doyle Earwood and Fred Alexander were part of the Pioneer Professors at North Central JR College, now Rochester College. I grew up watching Fred lead the chorus at North Central and then MCC. I was so disappointed when Fred was no longer the director, just before I went to MCC as a student. He was such great Christian influence to so many throughout the years. Fred will be greatly missed by so many. I look forward to being with him again in heaven some day. Blessings and prayers for all his family for comfort and peace.
Fun, laughter, beautiful music, sweet memories and a very special friendship with my father, Dan Woodroof, over many, many years. Paraphrasing Revelation 14:13: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on...they will rest from their labor for their deeds follow them." All of us who shared in Fred's life are better people because of his influence. We, his family, friends and students are a small part of the "works" that follow him. What a blessing! See you soon, Fessor Fred!
Always appreciated Fred's friendly smile and quiet chuckle. And, of course, Claudette's "happiness" smile; they were a cheerful couple. Our kids, their kids...great friends! We ended up next door neighbors for several years.
It was an honor know Fred. I worked with him at Harding and York. He did good every place he went. He was a great example of what it meant to be a follower of Jesus.
We have many fond memories of both Fred and Claudette. They gave of themselves to the work at Harding and at College Church. We appreciate the high standards they had at home, at school and at church. Love and sympathy to the family.
The Harding family expresses our deepest sympathy in the your loss. Fred was a great servant in the Kingdom and at Harding. I am thankful he recruited me to come to Harding, and I was able to express to him how much that decision changed my life. May God provide you comfort and peace.
With deepest sympathy
you will be missed my dear friend. Wonderful memories our last visit in Abilene,Texas walking the campus at ACU.
