Joe Brooks Jr.

of Osceola, AR

September 11, 1931 - December 12, 2018

Pastor Joe Brooks Jr., of Osceola passed December 12, 2018, he was born September 11, 1931 in Wilson, to the late Joe Brooks Sr. and Elizabeth James Brooks. He was the first born of six children, four boys and two girls.
In 1944, Pastor Brooks confessed a hope in Christ at the young age of 12 at St. John M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev D. S. Settles. In 1960, Pastor Brooks became a deacon under the leadership of Rev W. L. Lindsey and later Rev Robert L Johnson where he served faithfully in the ministry. He later answered the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1993 under the leadership of Pastor Robert L Johnson. He was later called to Pastor the Mt. Olive M. B. Church in Evadale where he served faithfully for many years. Because of his health conditions, Pastor Brooks incorporated the assistance of his nephew Elder Donald Paul Brooks, to whom he is eternally grateful for his love, support and service.
Pastor Brooks was preceded in death by his father Joe Brooks Sr, his mother Elizabeth James Brooks, 1 brother L. Z. Brooks, 2 sisters Addie Mae Anderson and Lizzie Mae Sykes, 3 sons Forrest Anthony, Stephen and Malcolm Ray, 4 daughters Doris Jean, JoAnn, Ruthie Jeannette, and Audrey Cassandra.
He was a God-fearing man of faith, devoted husband and father. Joe Brooks Jr. was not only a father to his own children, he was known as Daddy Joe, Daddy Brooks, Papa Brooks, Big Paw Paw (a name given by one of his grandsons for his great grandsons to call him) even Mr. Mama T. He was a father to the community. One of his greatest characteristics was his unconditional love for his family and everyone he met. Pastor Brooks traveled near and far with his wife Bernice singing gospel for many years. He even wrote one of the songs they recorded. He was quite the poet, which is how he won the heart of the love of his life, Mrs Bernice Brooks.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and beloved wife Bernice Brooks, 3 sons Jesse Brooks (Linda) of Atlanta, GA, Sammy Nelson (Nikki) of Jonesboro, AR, Joe Brooks III of Osceola, AR, 6 daughters Debra Brooks, Gladys Richardson (Edward), Jacqueline Love (Albert) all of Osceola, AR, Lahoma Beal (William) of Jonesboro, AR, Shiretta Brooks of Osceola, AR, and Varonda Williams of Huntsville, AL, 2 brothers Jesse L. Brooks (Peggy) of Indianapolis, IN and Robert Brooks (Kathy) of Little Rock, AR, 38 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, 3 special adopted sons, Pastor Odale Jones, (Rosetta), Pastor Cleveland Cain, (Brenda), Bishop Brian Olden (Cassandra) and a host of other special adopted sons, daughters, and grandchildren.

Paw paw really knew how to show the love of God towards people and especially his family. I don’t have to sit and think too hard before a memory comes to mind, because there were so many shared with him. It’s going to very hard to come home to visit, and not receive those big hugs and kisses. I will miss those long and slow phone calls ending in a promise to call more often. He without any doubt loved his family and I am honest to be his granddaughter.

Pastor Joe Brooks will be greatly missed. He was a Man of integrity, and character. Great leader and awesome singer. When he spoke it was with boldness and he will forever be missed. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Rest on Pastor Joe Brooks.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Daddy Joe was an awesome man of God who not only loved his family but loved the neighbor. I've had the pleasure of sharing many laughs. He always kept it real. I remember once when the church was having a fundraiser they were selling chitterlings plates. I told him I don't eat chitterlings Daddy Joe but I will give you a donation. He said, you don't? He went on to say that I'm gone get Momma Tee to fry you some chicken then. He made good on his word. I got my chicken. Heaven truly gained an angel.

To my grandfather, Mr. Joe Brooks Jr...WOW! It's still so hard to believe that you're no longer with us but we know that we have to continue to stay strong. I thank God greatly for you and for the love you have always shown, not only to your children and grandchildren, but to anyone who knew you or came around you or had just heard of you, you showed them love as well. Not only did you love, but also taught us how to love. You always told me that love is an action verb...you've got to show it and not just say it. That us something that I will hold in my heart always! I'm going to miss those talks we had, and the lectures you gave when we didn't come to see you!😊 Now I'm sorry that I took your time here on earth for granted...just assumed you'd always be here. But as sad as I may be, I'm also able to smile because I KNOW that you are with our heavenly Father! So we rejoice in that! Daddy, I love you, I'm missing you like crazy, and I know that I was your favorite(sorry Anton!),but we won't tell anyone else! Love you Daddy...R.I.L. Love, your Tac!

Daddy Joe Brooks,
There is so much to be said about you, but I'll keep it short. Everytime I came around, you always manage to remind me that I am your oldest grandson, some say I'm your favorite but we will just keep that between you and I. I will never forget how everytime I would come around you would always mush up and start acting like a little kid whose best friend was coming over to spend the night. I will miss you daddy but one thing that I can say is that I am glad that I know I made you proud of me because you always told me so. One thing that I will never forget is the night I came over to help Mama T get you washed up and into bed, how I tucked you in and told you that I love you not knowing it would be the last time you slept in that bed, but I know that you would not have rather had it any other way, and I'm so glad I got that opportunity. I know you still gone be in heaven doing that lil shake pop dance when I hit that high note on my guitar. I LOVE YOU DADDY, REST UP!
Rest In Love

Oh Pastor Brooks, you will be missed so much! You were MY first Pastor, as a child growing up in Bassett. I fondly recall when I was first baptized by you at 9 years old. I truly found Jesus, because I thought I would never get up out of that water, lol. I am confident that your powerful prayer saved me from the pits of hell. Even though I may backslide hear and there, I am quick to repent and try my my best to sin no more because of your teachings. You preached great sermons at Mt. Olive and my family and I can't thank you enough for all the blood, sweat, and tears you have poured into that sanctuary for the edification of GOD's Kingdom. I will miss seeing you and Mama T together. I truly admire the love you have for one another. Rest in Love Man of GOD.

Every conversation started with, you know I’m still your daddy? and ended with, do you still love me baby? No matter the distance between conversations, no matter the space between those talks, I have always felt that genuine love like I have never felt before from a father. I love you, I miss you. To the sweetest father I know, I love you dearly Daddy Brooks. May you sleep in peace. Hug Mac for me.
