December 4, 1955 - January 21, 2020

Marcus ''Gene'' Blackwell
Marcus ''Gene'' Blackwell 64, of Clarksville, Arkansas formerly of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away on January 21, 2020 at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas surrounded by all the ones who loved him dearly. Gene was born on Dec 4, 1955 in Wichita Kansas to Mary (Blackwell) Sutterfield.

He worked for 20 years in the offshore oilfield industry. The last 24 years he worked for Arkansas Electric Cooperative in Little Rock, Arkansas as a Senior Substation Technician II, until he became disabled due to his illness. Gene also served in the US Army. He is a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, Palomino Horse Breeder Association, and a lifetime member of the Stone County Saddle Club. Gene's hobbies included riding and training horses and reading horse magazines and journals. He was very knowledgeable about horses. He started out being around horses when he was young. He rode and trained horses in his younger years. Gene always said he learned a lot of valuable lessons from the old time traders Dewey Smith and Alan Nixon, who operated Pony Peak Ranch. He was a well known avid horse and tack trader, not only in his home state, but in Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi and Texas as well. Horse trading stories of him will always be told. All his rodeo, cowboy and horse trading buddies were all crowded around waiting to greet him wearing their big cowboy hats.

Now Gene is riding his horse on Gods' trails high up in the sky. The horse he's riding now don't spook, buck or kick. He is riding on the streets of gold. We will miss Gene so much, but we know he is having the time of his life. He and all of his horse trading buddies that have gone on before him are making some big trades. Gene's greatest joy in life was spending time with his two grandsons. He loved to cheer his grandson's on in their various sports activities as Clarksville Panthers. He extremely loved hauling their horses to rodeo's and team roping events. He had a shirt he wore that read , '' I'm a Horse Feedin, Horse Brushin, Horse Haulin, Horse Saddlin , Rope Totin, Midnight Drivin, Saddle cleaning Rodeo ''Pa Pa'' and to say he was very proud to do.

Gene chose a heavenly home by accepting Jesus as his personal savior May 3, 1998.

Gene is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Annette (Davis) Blackwell of the home, one daughter Kristi (Blackwell) Lindsey and husband Steve (Kizer) Lindsey, two grandsons, Kole Gene Lindsey and Kutter Frank Lindsey, his pride and joy, all of Clarksville Arkansas; mother Mary (Blackwell) Sutterfield of Mtn.
