Johnny Franklin RaglandI am a Veteran.

of Marshall, AR

May 14, 1933 - February 5, 2020

Johnny Franklin Ragland, age 86 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 at Highland Court. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on May 14th, 1933 to Eugene Ragland and Verlie Freeman Ragland.

Frank was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Frank was baptized at a young age and was a redeemed child of God. He enjoyed attending various churches and playing his guitar there. When Frank was young and first learning to play his guitar he would sit and play all day long and play the French harp at the same time. This drove his family crazy but all of those long hours of practice lead to his amazing talent as a guitar player. He was truly blessed with a wonderful gift of music. He spent his working years as a farmer. Frank brought sunshine and joy to all he came in contact with. He lived his life as a blessing to others.

Survivors include one daughter, Carla Fisher of Benton; brothers, Clifton (Shirley) Ragland of Marshall and Wilbur Ragland, also of Marshall; sisters, Alice (Ellis) Simpkins of Marshall and Anna Cunningham of St. Joe; and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends who will also mourn his passing.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Verlie Ragland; and siblings, Hubert Ragland and Vivian Ragland.

Funeral services for Frank will be 3:00 PM Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Clayton Lesley officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 till 3:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery near Morning Star. Pallbearers will be Travis Ragland, Allen Riggins, Tim Mays, R.C. Rea, Joe Rea and Tim LaPointe. Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Simpkins, Charles Ragland and Chris Wyatt.

Frank was a favorite cousin for myself and my siblings. I cannot ever remember his ever uttering an unkind work. I was privileged to have two good visits with him the last time I was in Arkansas. About 4 1/2 years ago, my daughter, Melissa and her son Garrison and I stopped to visit with Frank. I will never forget his kindness and eagerness to be a good host to us. He brought all of us cokes, and we sat and talked. He made it a point to pay particular attention to Garrison who was 6 at the time.

This is a scripture that comes to mind when I think of Frank:

I Corinthians 13;4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (Taken from the Holy Bible, NIV version.
I will miss you very much, Sweet Frank.

Frank was a much loved first cousin. When I came back to visit in Searcy County, If I saw no one else I always made sure to see Frank. Frank loved our family, especially my brother William. He told more than once he was very sad when we moved to Missouri. I have many memories of Frank, from picking tomatoes with him to listening while he played the guitar. I loved him dearly and will miss him a lot.

My condolences to all the family! Frank was a cousin, neighbor, fellow veteran, and great musician! I made it a point to be the veteran who honored him each year when the Leslie American Legion Post visited on Veteran's Day. God's comfort to all.
