Lyndle Irene (Beck) Barnes

of Little Rock, AR

February 20, 1927 - June 16, 2020

Lyndle Irene (Beck) Barnes, 93, born in Prattsville, AR on February 20, 1927 to Willie Franklin and Nancy Gladys (Dougan) Beck, passed through the gates of Heaven on to walk in its weedless gardens on June 16, 2020. She was joyously met by the love of her life, her second child, and family and friends awaiting her arrival.

Lyndle graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1946 from Sheridan High School. On July 13, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Barnes, canned vegetables and made plans for their first home at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She celebrated 73 years of marriage with Gordon just prior to his death in July last year.

She was a self-employed homemaker, an excellent cook, exceptional gardener, gifted seamstress, and an enthusiastic and loyal sports fan, particularly for the Arkansas Razorbacks and Dallas Cowboys. Other than her home, more specifically her kitchen, her favorite place to be was tirelessly working the acres of land she transformed into beautiful flower gardens.

A woman of faith and devout Christian, she was an active member of Central Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville and Unity Missionary Baptist Church after moving to Little Rock in 1965. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir, and taught children's Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School for many years. She opened her home and served hundreds of home cooked meals to Unity's visiting foreign missionaries and their families from Mexico and Japan and students attending the Missionary Baptist Seminary.

She was an ultimate selfless wife and mother who was proud of her family and a special ''Grannie'', who freely gave unending and unconditional love and support to her three daughters, their spouses, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Ann Harper; sister, Marie Litherland; and brothers, Charles William ''Buddy'' and William Eugene ''Pete'' Beck.

Memories of her are cherished by her daughters, Nancy (Terry) Ferchow, Arthur, IL, and Janis (Gary) Kovalscik, Hensley, AR; Grandchildren, Melani Ferchow, Amy (Shane) Cook, Urbana and St. Joseph, IL, Kevin (Robin) Nolder, Abby (Lew) McColgan, Little Rock, Cole (Sommer) Harper, Pensacola, FL, Jonah (Kasia) Harper, New York, NY, and Emma (Ryan) Martorella, Bossier City, LA; Great-grands, Jackson and Madelynn Cook, Noah and Ryan Nolder, Magnolia Harper, and Maximus and Silas Martorella; Sister, Vurneice Lybrand, Sheridan, AR; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the administration and staff of Woodland Heights Second Floor Memory Care for their love and care the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable gift to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or other veterans' charity of your choice or Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation in her memory.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family plans a private graveside service only at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

"Barnes," as I called her, took care of me often as a child on Wednesdays. I called her my Godmother because, as I explained to my mother, "God brought her to me." She was loving and nurturing, and I carry with me so many warm, vivid memories of our times together. She taught me how to play Scrabble, and she would create mazes in the back yard with fallen leaves in which for me to play. Her distinctive laugh and the way she would say "well gosh," will always be with me and make me smile. My heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time. I love you Barnes; a thousand upon thousand kisses to send you on your way back from where you came - to God.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of "Barnes" passing and the Vanlandingham Family sends their heartfelt condolences for your loss.

My family went to Unity Missionary Baptist Church with Lyndle and Gordon Barnes when I was a child and have always remembered them fondly. Barnes was a steady hand and voice of wisdom for my Mother, Helen, and was a local grandmother to my younger brother, David, caring for him like he was one of her own, when my mother needed some much needed time for herself with 3 young children. I have continued to think of Lyndle and Gordon over the years and will always hold them close to my heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with Barnes' family and friends during this difficult time.

I have so many fond memories of this special lady from the time I was a child and she was a teenager and all of my life. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I am most appreciative of her emotional and physical support during the time my own mother was in terminal medical condition. It meant a lot to me, and I am not sure that I ever expressed to her just how much it meant to me. I'm sure there are others who can relate similar experiences because it was her nature to help if she could. I'm sorry that she is gone. Goodbye Aunt Lyndle. I'll see you in a few years, or maybe sooner.
