Royall Carl Taylor

of Mountain Home, AR

January 30, 1944 - October 25, 2019

Mr. Royall Carl Taylor, age 75 years old, of Mountain Home passed away Friday, October 25th in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born January 30, 1944 to Lawrence and Irene (Kessel) in Ripley, West Virginia. He had four siblings: Lee, Ronnie, Walter and Barbie. He married Freda Foster on June 8, 1963 in Belvidere, IL. They were the parents of two daughters: Rhonda and Jennifer.

Carl had a detail shop in Mountain Home where he detailed automobiles and did state inspections. He was well known for his crappie fishing and fish fries. He worked with children at church and was a volunteer at Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary School for about 10 years. He received a service award of recognition as an ''Outstanding Volunteer'' on April 23, 1999. He was known as ''Mr. Carl'' to the kids.

He also had a bus ministry of 10 vans and a 40 passenger bus. He received a Certificate of Recognition at Eastside Baptist Church on July 10, 2016. He started working with a bus ministry in Belvidere, Illinois at the Free Methodist Church in the mid-60's. He started one at First Baptist in Mountain Home while he was attending there.

Carl was a deacon. His highlight of the year was going to church camp with the children and seeing the kids accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. He was a mentor to many and with the financial help of the Church and Sunday School classes needs were met for the families.

He was a caregiver and guardian for Veronica, Darla, and Carla Mahoney and a caregiver for his deceased mother-in-law, Belle Foster.

Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Freda, two daughters: Rhonda Ross of Bethany, Oklahoma and Jennifer (Rob) Seidel of Blue Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren: Jonathan, Michael and Christopher Ross and Hannah, Rachel and Kyle Seidel; and one brother: Ronnie (Priscilla) Taylor of Tarpon Springs, Florida; one sister: Barbie (Joe) Linan of Provo, Utah as well as several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

Both the visitation and funeral service will be held Monday, October 28 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Vince Daniel officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. and the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Shrable Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Foster, Jonathan Ross, Michael Ross, Christopher Ross, Kyle Seidel and David Foster. Honorary Pallbearers will be the past and present Church Van Drivers of East Side Baptist Church.

Dad was a servant. He best enjoyed life serving others. Dad’s childhood had been difficult, and addiction undermined the home life for all. At age 3, the family moved from Ripley, West Virginia to Sycamore, Illinois. At a young age, Dad did a lot of the cooking for the family and cared for his youngest sibling, Barbie. There was a lady in the neighborhood, Ma Matteson, who took a special interest in the neighborhood children. Dad kept in touch with Ma Matteson all of her life. The difficult childhood Dad had and the kindness he received contributed to his relentless drive to help others in need. He knew firsthand the difference a life with the Holy Spirit and the church could make for a family. He had the natural gift of gab and loved meeting people. These were inherited traits. Fortunately for Dad, his roots were embedded in the church as his mom’s family, the Bowles’/Kessel’s had given land to and helped build the Pleasant Hill Methodist Episcopal Church in Parchment Valley, WV. On his dad’s side, the Board’s had also given land to and helped build the Olde Board Baptist Church in Letart, WV. These roots in the church were instrumental in addiction deliverance and in connecting family members to the church as a foundation for the development of Christian values and living.

Dad's drive for people to know Christ came in many forms. When he wasn’t out becoming acquainted with someone, he was on the phone. He maintained a fleet of church vans; coordinated van rides; taught Sunday school; served as a Youth Challenge mentor; made home and jail visits; distributed food and clothes; found others vehicles, appliances, jobs and housing; moved people, etc. The neighbors knew something was amiss if he hadn’t been in and out of his driveway several times a day. I just said he was DHS all-in-one. The very fitting song that Dallas Daniel sang at his funeral is entitled, “Thank you (for Giving to the Lord).”

Freda, please know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers and I will be looking forward to seeing Uncle's spiffy spot on decoration day.

Uncle Carl was such a blessing to our family. He was good to all of us in Cali and I will forever be grateful to have such an amazing uncle in my life.

He was God's servant first with an emphasis on protecting and caring for underserved youth. He was a champion for the underdog, and had the softest place in his heart for children who needed love. If Carl wasn't right there for you, it was because he was busy with God's plan.

Your heart will always be close to mine. Love to you all.

Janet

Carl was a wonderful man. He was always ready with a smile and a story. He was always there for the kids. He went to Church Camp as long as he was physically able - and sometimes when he really wasn't. That didn't matter to him -- what really mattered to him were all the students whose lives he touched in such a very special way. He was a vital part of the Children's ministry when I was involved in it at Eastside Baptist Church. He also made the best banana pudding in the world!
He will be missed by my husband John and I very much.

Taylor Family,
We loved Carl very much. He invested himself in so many young people’s lives because he loved Jesus and wanted them to know His salvation. We were privileged to spend time with some of Carl’s kids while teaching them God’s word and hanging out with youth activities. The kids loved Carl too and may have never heard The Good News without his intervention. We often commented that Carl was going to have many crowns waiting for him in heaven. We can only imagine that he has laid them at the feet of Jesus as he worships his King.
Freda, thank you for sharing Carl with so many. May God wrap you And your family in His loving arms and may you feel the peace that can only come from Him during this season and many days to come.

Praying for Carl's family, church family, and friends for comfort from the LORD in the loss of Carl. I was encouraged each Sunday at RLC before the 8:30 AM service by Carl's presence. I was honored to serve him coffee and listen to his words of wisdom.

Mr. Carl volunteered in my classroom at Nelson Wilkes Herron for 10 years. He was an excellent role model to every student in my classes. He came every week and sometimes more if there was an event at school or a field trip. Anything that the kids or I needed , he was there!!! You could always depend on Mr. Carl. The last time I saw him was when he came to my mother’s funeral six years ago. It meant so much to me that he made that gesture. I am so grateful for all the lives that he has made better by being Involved in them. I am sorry for the children’s lives that he won’t be able to enrich. I felt very privileged to have had him be such an important part of my teaching career. Carl, your presence will be missed here , but Heaven just received an extraordinary angel!!
