Augusta "Gussie" Olsen

of Mountain Home,

February 2, 2018

Augusta (Gussie) Shofner Olsen went to be with Jesus on February 2, 2018, in Mountain Home, AR, at the age of 98. She was born August 24, 1919, in Clinton, AR, to Monroe Von and Rosa Jane Megee Shofner. Augusta was the youngest of their six children. Her parents owned and operated grocery stores in Plumerville and Clinton, AR. She grew up working in those stores, and loved nothing better than ''selling'' whatever was in the store. Augusta was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, AR, and in later years attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO.
On November 17, 1941, Augusta married James Donald Olsen at Bethel Baptist Church in Morrilton, AR. The Olsens spent their 60 years together living in Chicago, Illinois, Harrison, AR, Kansas City and Springfield, MO, moving to Mountain Home, AR in 1997. During her long life, Augusta was a wife, mother, Flavor Seal Cookware Distributor, co-owner with her husband, of Southside Grocery in Lead Hill, AR, and of Streamline Products, which made railroad lanterns in Springfield, MO. She was an antiques dealer for many years, owning several shops. In her younger days, Gussie taught Sunday School, was a church youth leader, sang in choirs, was in WMU Women's Missions, worked in Vacation Bible School, and in school PTA. She was currently a member of Edith Mitchell's Ladies' Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. Both she and Jim were members of First Baptist Church, Mountain Home, until their deaths. They led their children to Christ, at an early age….a treasure that will last for eternity.
Augusta is survived by her three children: Donna (Dr. Frank) Bowers of Mountain Home, AR, James (Linda) Olsen of Western Grove, AR, and John (Judy) Olsen of Springfield, MO; one granddaughter: Jennifer Olsen (Billy Furnish) of Mt. Judea, AR; and one great-granddaughter: Mesa Olsen of Mt. Judea, AR. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her precious life-long friend, Dixie Marriott.
Augusta was pre-deceased by: husband, James D. Olsen, her parents, one sister, Dosia Williams, and four brothers: Aud, Pem, Dale and Milburn Shofner and their spouses.
Visitation will be at Roller Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 7, from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Dr. Tad Rogers of First Baptist Church, Mountain Home, will officiate. Burial will follow in Harrison, AR, at the Maplewood Cemetery. Family member, Stephen Leonard, will lead the graveside service. The family sincerely appreciates the care given our mother, by the In-home Hospice staff.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International or to Hospice of the Ozarks. Visit our online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/mtnhome.

Donna and family you have my deepest sympathy at this time of loss. Gussie was the dearest and sweetest friend to me and others that attended Sunday school class together. Her love for our Lord Jesus Christ was always ever present in all activities we had together. Ms Gussie will be missed even though she wasn’t able to attend church and class with us but we remembered her in prayer. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
