Selva Jean Dunman

of Jonesboro, AR

January 24, 1938 - October 12, 2019

Selva Jean (Crisler) Dunman closed the last chapter of her life on October 12, 2019, at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. Selva was born to George and Floy (Coots) Crisler on January 24, 1938, in Cash, Arkansas. She attended school at Cash and graduated in 1955. A terrific basketball player, even into her later years. After graduation Selva, went to Springfield, for a short while, to attend business school. Selva married Bernard Russell Dunman, "Junior" in 1957. She and Junior had their first child in 1958, their second in 1960. In 1968, Selva began working in the office of Cash School, as secretary and Librarian, she would continue until the school closed, and she transferred to the new Westside Elementary School. She retired from Westside Schools in 2009, after having worked for 42 years. Selva was known for her meticulous record, and attendance keeping during her years in the school system. Selva continued to work the gate at the basketball games until just a year or so before her retirement. She also remained active in the planning committee for the Annual Cash All School Reunions, which started in the early Eighties.
Selva was a member of Stone Ridge Church of Christ. She loved to be outside, she enjoyed taking a walk, and working in the yard. She loved children, and was always recognized, by former students when out in the community. Selva enjoyed the holidays, which for her began with Halloween, when she would make a couple hundred popcorn balls for kids, and adults who would return just for the treat they remembered from childhood. She loved Christmas, and could spend hours Christmas shopping. Family was very important to her, and she always looked forward to spending time with those she loved. In 2010 Selva received the diagnosis of Alzheimer's type dementia. This disease robbed her memory, but never our memory of her. Her family would watch her slowly fade away over the next nine years.
Selva was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers: Jimmy Darrell, Billy George, and Bobby Crisler.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Melanie) Dunman and Ronald (Kathryn) Dunman, all of Cash; her sisters, Jane Cureton and Gail Goodwin, of Jonesboro; brothers, Wilson Crisler, of Hoxie and Donald Crisler, of Maumelle; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren, with another on the way; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W Washington Ave, Jonesboro, Arkansas, with Dick Blackford officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery in Cash, Arkansas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Selva's nephews and great nephews.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until time of service.
The family wishes to thank, Dr. Rick Tate for his care throughout this journey. The Staff of Lexington Place Healthcare. The staff of Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.

I was so sad to open my laptop and see this about Selva.
I knew her my entire life; seeing her during my years at Cash and Westside schools and then seeing her again when my son went to Westside.
Miss Selva was also my deceased sister-in-law's first cousin and my nieces and nephews 2nd cousin. I was very fond of her.
She was so soft spoken and had a smile on her face all the time. She could also be firm when she needed to be, as I remember back at the Cash school days.
My condolences go out to her children, grandchildren, siblings and all other family members at this time.
I know she will be greatly missed and that her memories will always be with all of you, as they will me.
May GOD bring to them solace and ease their grieving at this time.
