James Gilliam, Jr., 91, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on January 4, 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late James and Rebecca (Quattlebaum) Gilliam.

James was preceded in death by both parents, brother, Tony Gilliam, sisters; Ina Jean (Gilliam) Brown and Mary Kathryn (Gilliam) Batey.

James is a US Army Korean Conflict Veteran and a member of the Fifty-Six Missionary Baptist Church. He lived the first half of his adult life in Niles, Michigan where he worked at Uniroyal until retirement. Then, he moved back to Mountain View, Arkansas where he lived the remainder of his life.

He loved horses and enjoyed horseback riding and went on many trail rides throughout his life. He also had a great love for calling square dances and attending dances all around. James could be found most Friday and Saturday nights at the dance. He loved his family, friends and never met a stranger. James will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

James is survived by his sister, Helen Ailene (Gilliam) Lowrance, many nephews, nieces and numerous friends.

A family burial will take place at Quattlebaum Cemetery in Bee Branch, Arkansas on Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Thank you for the one horse open sleigh ride down Ironwood Road. I have never forgotten that, or, you playing Santa Claus in that costume and scaring us to death.
