Donald Ray Stone

of Clinton, AR

July 21, 1933 - April 28, 2020

On July 21, 1933 Donald Ray Stone was born near Anton, Texas and went home to be with his Lord on April 28, 2020. Born at home to Leslie Dae Jones Stone and Arthur Lee Stone during the depth of the depression, he was the youngest of four sons. He and his three brothers J.W., Alton Lee ''Bud'' and Vernon were taken to the field early and helped with the family farm. An outstanding high school athlete, he attended school and practice and then returned home to milk the cows.

After graduation in May, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart Sue Orcutt in June. They became parents to daughters born in the next two years. Don supported the family as a salesman and they lived in Amarillo and Lubbock. Wanting to give his daughters better opportunities to participate in school activities, he and Sue moved back to Anton in 1964. He served as a volunteer coach for the girls' softball team and never missed a game where he could watch them twirl and cheer. One of his proudest moments was when daughter Christi made all-district on the basketball team.

He could build or repair anything and he and Sue began a home remodeling business. They gave generously of their time and resources to help their daughters and helped turn older houses into beautiful homes for them. They enjoyed their five grandsons and visited often. They moved to Uvalde, Texas and established a successful carpet cleaning firm. Some of the grandsons worked in the business and learned the value of hard work.
In 2001 Don and Sue moved from Texas and retired near the Austin, Arkansas community. Don was always a good cook. While daughter Christi went to college and then worked as a nurse, he would have a hot meal waiting after her 12-hour shift. He had a great love of gospel music and folk tunes and sang to three generations.

Don's wife of 65 years passed away in 2018. He is survived by daughters Patti Landers and her husband Tom from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Christi Bryant and husband Ralph from Center Ridge, Arkansas. There are five grandsons: Russell Bryant (Jennifer) and Ryan Bryant of Arkansas, Stephen Landers of Tulsa, David Landers of Avon, Colorado and Andrew Landers (Tong) of Irvine, California. There are four great grandchildren: Amara Landers, Madison Bryant, Coen Landers and Evan Landers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas.
