James Loren Thayer, 76, of Damascus was born on October 2, 1943 to the late Ray and Maude (Fauslaught) Thayer in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away on January 25, 2020 in Clinton, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maria, of the home, three children; Carlos, Terri, Cindy, seven grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
James distinguished himself in service to his country during the Vietnam War era and has a book entitled Tango 1-1 scheduled for release in February 2020. He was also a retired Chief of Police in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Blackwell Cemetery in Bee Branch.

I just finished his book. What an incredible story by an exemplary soldier and amazing man. Although I never met Jim, I’m grateful to now know his story and legacy.

I served with Jim in Vietnam and he was a brave and distinguished soldier earning the Silver Star, Bronze Stars and Purple Heart. He was a rare individual and will be sorely missed by all. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace my Ranger Brother.
