of Little Rock, AR
September 19, 1949 - April 12, 2020
Jean Ann ''Jeanie'' Brasher of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her home in Little Rock due to complications from her long struggle with interstitial lung disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.Jeanie was born September 19, 1949 to Herman and Rosemary Sick in Little Rock, Arkansas. She attended Holy Souls and Mount St. Mary's Schools where part of her joy was personified as a Catholic High Varsity Cheerleader. She went on to attend UALR (LRU) where she was voted Sweetheart of Sigma Nu Fraternity, and then received her Bachelor's degree in Special Education from UCA in Conway. She then attended graduate classes at Florida State University, receiving her Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Jeanie was a teacher for 45 years, teaching at the Arkansas School for the Blind and later, the Kentucky School for the Blind. She won awards for excellence in teaching from professional organizations at both schools, including the Joyce Ogburn award in Arkansas, and the Touching Lives award in Kentucky. In spite of all her accomplishments in education, according to her, the greatest reward was simply the joy and excitement a child expressed after learning something new.Jeanie is survived by her husband of 49 years; Bob Brasher, her children; Jeremy (Sonia) and Justin (Crissy) Brasher, grandchildren; Oliver Pilcher and Brooks Brasher, and her siblings; Jim (Barb) Sick, Kay (Mike) Corso, and Roberta Sick. She also leaves many more friends and family members in Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky, and Jerseyville, Illinois. A memorial mass will be scheduled and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to: Arkansas Hospice (arkansashospice.org/foundation/donate/) or any organization serving the blind and visually impaired.
I worked with Jeannie at KSB and she was truly the best. I met with her and a KSB group for dinner before she moved and she was very positive and looked great. She will be missed.

Pat & I are extremely sorrowful to learn of Jeannie’s passing. You have our sincere sympathy. May God’s blessings sustain you all in your grief.
it is unusual when you think back on your memories of someone that there are no negative ones. To remember someone as always a gifted teacher and a positive and caring person is rare, but that is how I remember Jeanne. Where did all that almost psychic ability to know the right thing to say and do come from?It is hard to fathom I can only assume it came from a depth of faith and sense of purpose that made her what Pope Francis called an “everyday saintâ€
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Brasher was such an amazing teacher and touched countless lives. She is living on through her students.
Whenever I think of Jeanie, I remember her just like this beautiful photo; she was always smiling. She was such a lovely lady, inside and out; it always made me feel good to be with her. My heart aches for Bob and her sons, but I can't think of a better day to go to the Lord than Resurrection Sunday. He conquered death and the grave when He arose and we have the same promise. She will be missed greatly, but she impacted so many lives that her legacy of working with children and enhancing the lives of so many of her colleagues, friends, and family will live on as long as we share our sweet memories of her.
Dear Bob and Family,My deepest condolences on the loss of your wife and mother. I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her but I can see how special, loving, and patient she was to teach and care for those whose learning requires different methods. She touched and enriched many lives and made the world a better place for having done so.Loving prayers for your peace and comfort.Pam Luther (LRCHS ’65)
Dear Mr.Brasher, I did not have the pleasure of knowing Jeannie, but have heard only the very nicest things about her from David and Dawn. Bob and family: I am so sorry to hear of Jeanie's death. I recall the very first time I saw her at Kentucky School for the Blind. I had been assigned to observe classes there. Jeanie had a small class of two very different students who were learning at very different speeds and capacities, and they were working on two completely different projects. She expertly and compassionately moved from one student to the other as she taught, affirmed, and challenged them. Her teaching skills and caring attitude were amazing. I didn't know her well, but I am so glad I met her. Sending wishes for peace and healing.
I didn't know her well. From what I have heard she cared about the students at the Kentucky School for the Blind. I work at the industries for the blind that is behind the school. A couple of times on my way to work she would see me and give me a ride to work. Prayers for the family during this difficult time. Debbie Deatherage
My heart is aching. Jeanie was one of my friends who helped me find out who I am. She was good through and through and always set good examples for me and others. I am eternally grateful for our time together as CHS cheerleaders and roommates at UCA. My condolences to all of you. I know she will be missed.
So heart broken for your loss. Love and Prayers to your family. She will be missed, and Heaven will be richer by another Angel.
I knew Jeannie as a little girl through the friendship of my parents, John & Virginia Reeves, with Herman and Rosemary. From reading the above tributes, it seems that I missed the very best part of Jeannie’s life. She was a wonderful and caring ‘grow-up’, as well as a fun friend back then. The Sicks’ have always been special to me, and so I pray for each of you and send my heartfelt condolences.
Dear Bobby and family We were so very sorry to learn of Jeanie’s death. It must be all the more difficult during this awful time. With our deepest sympathy,Ruthie & Alan Holland
Bob and Family, I was saddened to learn of Jeanie's passing. I didn't know that she had been ill. She was such a vibrant, outgoing, and wonderful person. I know a little of what you are going through. My Judy passed away 5 years ago at the age of 70. My condolences to you and your family, as well as to her siblings, Mary Kay, Jim, and Bertie! I will be sending a memorial to her Hospice. Regards, Frank
So sorry for y'alls loss. God be with you and Prayers for all
Heaven became a little brighter with the light she emitted just from her smile and shining eyes. As a classmate at Mt St Mary Academy she was a joy to be with. I can’t imagine how you must feel. I pray for all of her family and those who knew her for it is a loss that came too soon. It saddens me that social distancing prevents the gathering of her loved ones. Benita
Bob and family,My heart breaks in your loss. Please know you are all in my prayers during this time. I pray for peace in your heart and the love of family to comfort you.Love, Laura
Jeanie was part of many families but the Kentucky School for the Blind family was absolutely blessed to have her in ours. She was always under control and adapting every situation for her students. Most of our group is now retired but our memories will continue to give us pleasure knowing we guided many lives while they enriched ours. God bless all the family and may they know that in Christ even when it is not easy to go on he will guide us.Marty Mills
Bob and family, What a great loss for all of you. I enjoyed knowing Jeanie a little during my visits to APH, and I especially looked forward to evenings when she would join a group of us for dinner after a day’s work. Her warmth was always appreciated, and her wisdom about our shared profession was evident. The two of you were seemed so well matched, which must have taken many years of practice! Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.Jane Erin/Ken Kalina
