of Little Rock, AR
December 6, 1927 - February 4, 2020
Louise Irene Petersen, 92, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord, February 4, 2020. She was born on December 6, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jack and Mildred McQuown. Louise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her top priority and meant everything to her. Louise loved people and made friends easily. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and loved playing cards and board games with family. She was always ready for a good road trip and treasured making memories and traveling with family.
Louise grew up in Oklahoma City, graduated from Classen High School, and took a job at Rothchild's. At the young age of 17, she and her best friend Joanne attended a Navy servicemen's dance in Norman where she met and fell in love with a young sailor who would become her devoted husband of 73 years. After they were married, his work would take them to Oklahoma, Missouri and even New Jersey, finally settling in Arkansas where they raised their young family. Louise was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Little Rock, was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship and a founding volunteer with their food pantry. She served on the Pulaski County election commission as an election supervisor for several years. She was an avid patriot and took her civic responsibilities seriously. Louise will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Janet Bowden, and her sister, Marilyn Cheney. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith M. Petersen; brother-in-law, Bruce Petersen (Bonnie); sister-in-law, Carol Bastian; two children, Keith Petersen (Linda), Diane Ferree (John); son-in-law, John Bowden; four grandchildren, Emily Connell (Kevin), Eric Bowden, Matt Ferree (Jennifer), Kristin Langrehr (Trent); six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Landon, Caitlyn, Madison, Stevenson and Joumy; a host of nieces and nephews; life-long friend, Joanne Doak; and loving caregiver, Mia Baugh.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Louise's name to Alzheimer's Arkansas (alzark.org) or to First Christian Church, 14411 Taylor Loop Rd., Little Rock, AR 72223.
A memorial service will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1 PM.
