Martha Mae Barnes

of Little Rock, AR

July 31, 1928 - January 4, 2020

Martha Mae Barnes was born July 31, 1928 and passed away January 4, 2020 of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Thomas H. Barnes, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dr. Thomas Michael Barnes (Jane), her daughter Pam Barnes Essary (Bryan), her grandchildren Dr. Alyson Fish (Mike), Stacy Barnes, Christen Essary (Brian), Kelly Benton (Mat), Joshua Nowell, Allison Courtois (David) and 13 great-grandchildren.

If you combined every rhinestone, sequin and ruffle in the state, you would never be able to compete with Martha's collection of baubles. She loved gospel music, traveling the world and decorating for holidays. When her husband went off to fight in Korea, she prayed. When her family was sick or troubled, she prayed. When she and her husband were being held hostage by armed robbers, she prayed. When things were great and she was blessed, she prayed. And it paid off, because as she grew older and her body failed her, Jesus' promise was fulfilled and she was made anew. She joined her beloved and handsome husband Tom, her siblings and parents in heaven for endless worship and revival - and she learned that heaven was even better than a Southern Baptist Convention. Please join us in your Sunday's best hat for a celebration of life.

A funeral service will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2020. A celebration of life will be held an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at 3:00 p.m. at Monette Memorial Cemetery in Monette, Arkansas.

We lived next door to Miss Martha and Dr Tom, in the early 60’s. it was a great time in our lives. I had lots of fun playing barbies with Pam and sneaking into Mikes room to look at his records when he wasn’t home. Miss Martha always made me feel welcome. I’m sure she and Dr. Tom are smiling down on you all. (Becky Clark).
