Jean Wall Byrd

of Little Rock, AR

August 22, 1929 - January 13, 2019

Jean Elaine (Wall) Byrd, 89, went to be with the Lord January 13, 2019. She was born in Hoisington, Kansas on August 22, 1929 to Ben and Iola Wall. Jean loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and a woman of great faith. With her son Chris, she had been memorizing the books of the Bible and had memorized up to Amos before she passed away. An avid reader and traveler, Jean had a lifelong interest in politics and education. Mother was a calming force in our family life and brought sharp wit, a soothing voice, and much love. Mom always had her opinion and even though it may not have been the same as the person's asking, she would honestly answer any questions and offer sound advice. Mother will be greatly missed and thought about every day. A sight, a smell, a sound, will trigger memories of her for the rest of our lives.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; Clarence Richard Byrd. She is survived by three children; Richard C Byrd of Benton, David W Byrd (Suzanne) of Benton, and Marian L Byrd Oesterle (Bill) of St. Louis, Missouri, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Charles Smith, Dr. David Rozas, Dr. James Landers, Baptist Health, Brookdale Pleasant Hills Senior Living, Assisted Living Director Chiquita Sigears and staff, Executive Director Tina Bone, and Home Hospice Care and staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodists Church.

Richard and Jean were dear friends when they lived in Durango, Colorado. We had many delicious meals and fun times together. Richard loved trains and loved to hike and he and my Dad spent lots of time doing both together. He was a member of Coffee Club with Chester and LaVern and so the ladies( Anita and Loranell) also became friends. We traveled to Arizona to enjoy their park model winter escape with them. I collect burros. Jean gave me her childhood iron burro bank when she moved as she knew I would cherish it. It was on my mantle with other little burros and greenery this Christmas and I talked about her. Richard made a beautiful wooden bowl for us from our cedar tree at the farm. A beautiful reminder of our friendship. They will be missed by all of us in Durango and we are glad we got to know them.

I will forever be grateful for Ms. Byrd....She gave me the opportunity for a new career that I still have today. I have been appreciative of her my whole life and consider her my mentor. In addition to that, she became my friend and was always supportive of me. She will be missed.

Both Richard & Jean became dear friends of the Nelson family in Durango, Colorado. What a great, loving and smart couple they were! They are now together!
I had forgotten that Jean was born in Kansas - and now I know why they wanted that limestone fence post with the family name on it. (Post was quarried at one of my college classmates ranch in KS.) We have a Nelson post here in Durango too. Richard was a member of my Dad's coffee bunch, and Jean a dear friend of my Mother's. They both volunteered with me for special events at the Railroad. (We all loved trains!)

God Bless them both - and may your faith help during this time of sorrow. The memories of them will certainly live forever. Kristi Nelson (daughter of LaVern and Loranell Nelson)

Ms. Byrd is one of my favorite patients. She was always upbeat. Her smile would warm the room. We would all make her laugh fighting over her to see who could get there hug first.

May the family treasure her memories always
My prayers are with you all

To the Family of Jean Wall Byrd, I’m sorry for your loss of your beloved, May you find comfort in the God of all comfort, Jehovah, (2 Corinthians 1:3,4; Psalms 83:18) in his word, the Bible, in Isaiah 57:15: For this is what the High and Lofty One says, Who lives forever and whose name is holy: “I reside in the high and holy place, But also with those crushed and lowly in spirit, To revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of those being crushed. The Only true God, has promised in his Word, in Isaiah 25:8: He will swallow up death forever And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.... For Jehovah himself has spoken it.
