Melba Robbins Bussell

of Little Rock, AR

April 29, 1928 - January 10, 2019

Melba Robbins Bussell, of Little Rock, age 90, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on April 29, 1928, to Bufford and Addie Robbins in Willow, Arkansas. She attended Sparkman Schools, graduating in 1946. In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Glenn, and they had 56 wonderful years together until his death in 2005. At the age of 36, she enrolled at Southern Arkansas University (then Southern State College), graduating in 1968 with a degree in Elementary Education. She then taught for the next 22 years in both the Emerson and the Magnolia School Systems. In 2008, she moved to Little Rock to be near her family. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class. She loved her family, her church, her music, her plants, and until her health prevented her, she loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Bussell; three brothers, Lewie Robbins, Bill Robbins and Donnie Robbins; and three sisters, Charline Copeland, Rosa Lee Criswell and Martha Nell Robbins. She is survived by one son, Dr. Joseph Bussell (Debra), and a daughter, Dr. Kathy Thomas (Steve), all of Little Rock. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Dr. Alexis McCollum (Hank), Lauren Ross (Jason), Austin Bussell (Sara), Skylar Bussell, Abby Thomas and Preston Smith; five great-granddaughters, Addie McCollum, Mia McCollum, Nora Jane Ross, Emerie Ross and Josslyn Bussell; two sisters, Joye Holeman and Barbara Stewart (Alfred); and one brother, Ronnie Robbins,

A special thank you to the members of the Grace Sunday School Class and the personnel and residents of Parkway Village who ministered so faithfully to her these past few years, and to the staff of Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehab who took such good care of her in the last weeks of her life.

Funeral service with Reverend Rick Hyde officiating will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford, Little Rock, AR. We knew both Mr. and Mrs. Bussell because we were teachers in Magnolia and Emerson schools too. Our deepest sympathy to all the family during this difficult time. May God grant you peace and comfort.
