Patti Anne Shell

of Little Rock, AR

May 20, 1946 - June 23, 2018

On June 23, 2018, after a very long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure and sarcoidosis, Patti Anne (Buchanan) Shell went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 72 years old.

Patti Anne was born on May 20, 1946, in Memphis, TN, to James Franklin and Anna Bess (Bailey) Roark. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lela Taskey; brother, Tracy Buchanan; and aunt, Emma Lou Bailey. She is survived by her daughter, Karlyn McCullough, and son-in-law, Keith McCullough, who was like a son to her, both of Roland, AR; son, Jim Shell and his wife, Sunny, of Plano, TX; twin sister, Kathi Rumbaoa (Sam), of West Plains, MO; brother, Mark (Cindy) Buchanan, of Monroe, LA; brother-in-law, Bobby Taskey, of Royal, AR; and brother, David Schuman (Marsha), of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Emma McCullough of Little Rock, AR; Ethan McCullough, Seth McCullough, and Jacob McCullough, all of Roland, AR; Michael Shell (Caitlin) and Kevin Shell, all of Plano, TX. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

Patti Anne amazed us all with her ability to trust the Lord in her great trials. She was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in 1988, enduring horrible side effects for many years from the medicines used to treat that. She underwent a liver transplant in 2006 that allowed her to be with us 12 more years but also brought its own level of suffering. Due to liver failure, she developed diabetes that remained after the transplant. She also was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in the past few months. But she trusted God in all of these things, consistently verbalizing her faith in His plans for her. Even to the end, even though Mom was ready to be in Heaven with Jesus, she was patient to wait for His timing for her Home-going.

Patti Anne enjoyed many things! She loved being with her family, always reached out to help people in need, and was known for her gracious hospitality. She loved crosswords, reading, going to the movies, and listening to the old hymns. She will be remembered for her bright clothing, impeccable manicures, and love for animal-print clothing and furniture!

We already miss her so much, but we also do not grieve as others do who have no hope. We will see her again!

Patti Anne was a member of Bible Church of Little Rock, where services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 30, with Pastor Paul Hamline officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will immediately follow at Riverwood Memorial Gardens, Maumelle, AR. Pallbearers will be Ethan McCullough, Seth McCullough, Jacob McCullough, Nick Nichols, James Henrich, and Mark Etherington. Special thanks to Hospice Home Care for their compassionate and tender care for us; and also to Vivian Etherington, a special friend and tremendous help for our family for the past 12 years.

Memorials may be made to Bible Church of Little Rock, 19111 Cantrell Rd., Little Rock, AR, 72223; or to ARORA, 1701 Aldersgate Rd., Ste. 4, Little Rock, AR, 72205.

I only met my Aunt Patti a couple of times during which she gave me her recipes at Mimi’s house and called me by so many lovely names that I immediately developed an affection for her. I remember her proudly telling stories about her family and hope they all find comfort in the years they had with her. Sending condolences and love to all of those bereaved. Lisa and Family

I am so sorry to hear of Patti's passing. I went to church with your parents when you were born, Karlyn. That was when they lived in North Little Rock. I was blessed to see her and you again in an outpatient facility before her liver transplant. We had a good visit and had not seen each other in years. I always told her that you were the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. Sending my love and prayers to you and all the family. Patti was a special person. Betty Barentine

I first met PattiAnn at the bankruptcy court. We became friends right away. We stayed friends long after we both retired from the courts. She helped me through tough times at both work and my personal life. I was there for her through hers. I love her with all my heart. When she was ready to give up, I always told her that the Lord still needed her to do her angel works wherever needed. That always cheered her up and made her smile. The Lord blessed her and gave her such strength to endure all those hardships that she went through. She always had a sweet genuine smile for all that came from her kind heart. Both my husband and I were so lucky that the Lord brought us all together because she left a memorable mark on our lives for ever. God bless you always my sweet angel friend! Watch over us all now! ❤❤💋

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4"With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

Patti was a friend from childhood. She was always so sweet to everyone she met and knew. I haven’t seen her since we graduated high school together. My prayers of comfort are with her children, grandchildren and sister and brothers.
