John T. Long

of Higden, AR

November 17, 1965 - February 21, 2020

John T. Long was born November 17, 1965 at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas to Floyd and Brenda Long. He received a degree in special education and later a master's degree in school administration from the University of Central Arkansas. He married Rhonda on July 13, 1991 in Toland Chapel at Central Baptist College. In the fall of 1998, he accepted the position of elementary principal at West Side Greers Ferry and had a very influential career. Over the next 22 years, he was devoted to investing in children at school and his church. He raised his two children, Caleb and Hannah, in Greers Ferry where he shared a love of the outdoors and family heritage with those nearest to him. John passed away on February 21, 2020 at his home in Higden.

John courageously battled cancer for nearly five years and was cared for by his wife Rhonda and sister Bonnie Humphrey. It was his determination to see his two children, Caleb and Hannah, graduate. Supporting him during this time were his in-laws Max and Linda English. He will be remembered by his brother Danny Long (Sheila), brother-in-law Don Humphrey, sister-in-law Malina English; nephews Aaron Humphrey (Reanna), Jordan Long (Krissy), and Josh Long; great-nephew and nieces Brooklyne Paige, Aiden, and Lainey.

John has joined his family at the feet of Jesus and we are comforted by his testimony.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm Monday, February 24th at West Side Baptist Church, Greers Ferry. Funeral service will be at 2pm, Tuesday at the new gym at West Side in Greers Ferry, with Pastor Doug Inzer officiating. Burial will follow at Higden-McLehaney Cemetery in Higden. Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Humphrey, Jordan Long, Josh Long, Charles Walker, Gary Nipper and Robert Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the West Side Elementary teachers and staff.

''I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.''
II Timothy 4: 7-8

Mr. Long, my family and I is heartbroken at this news. You brought so many smiles to our daughter every morning walking into school.
You were at west side throughout my husband's school years, my school years and 1 of my 3 babies. And you never once let us down. You never gave up on us when we struggled. And we couldn't thank you enough for all you have done for us. We will miss you so much. Annabelle has continued to say "good morning mr. Long" except now she looks straight up...Fly high and rest easy. Prayers for your family and friends. Love, The Rutledge Family.
