Juanita Anthony Burkhart

of Conway, AR

August 10, 1925 - October 17, 2019

Tommie Juanita Anthony Burkhart, 94, of Conway, passed away October 17, 2019. She was born August 10, 1925, the daughter of James A. Anthony and Edith Jeanette (Jobe) Anthony of Enola, AR. She was the last of three children which included two brothers, Grady and Jack Anthony. Her husband, Thomas O. Burkhart; her parents; both brothers, and a son, Robert A. Burkhart of California, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Garmer (Greg); a son, Michael Burkhart (Judy); and eight grandchildren, Nathan Garmer, Drew Lowry and Jeremy, Shawn-Michael, Christopher and Dana Burkhart and Ariane Dulcenae (Burkhart) Allen; and five great-grandchildren.

In 1960, after she graduated from UCA with a teaching degree (BSE) she and her husband and children moved to Chula Vista, CA, Where she taught elementary school for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She was very active in all phases of teaching, but a special interest was in teaching music to her students. During the years she taught, she produced and directed many of the Christmas programs with the help of other teachers in her school, accompanying the student actors on the piano or organ. She was also instrumental in helping her school win a Freedoms Foundation Award in citizenship while she was editor of the school paper. An on-going interest in hobbies and crafts enabled her to instruct her students in many crafts that are no longer known or used.

During her years of retirement, she enjoyed painting with watercolors, and learned a new way of making a picture; Landscape Quilting. She enjoyed many of the home arts and making her home, not only liveable, but enjoyable for her family and friends. She also passed on to her daughter, many of the arts and crafts such as cooking, canning and creating original items.

Mary, I am so very sorry to see that Miss Juanita has passed. I truly enjoyed our visits at the shop. She was very kind to me. I will always remember and appreciate her thoughtfulness towards me especially on holidays and my birthday. She seemed to make those days a little more special. I will miss her greatly. ((Hugs))
