Connie Rosalind Strohaker

of Knoxville, AR

December 1, 1942 - June 13, 2019

Connie Springston Strohaker, 76 of Knoxville, AR passed away June 13, 2019 in Knoxville, AR. She was born December 1, 1942 in Parkersburg, WV to Orlen E. and Frances Vera Barkes Springston.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Strohaker. She is survived by one sister, Bonnie (Harry) DeNegre of Dadeville, AL, sons, Guy Strohaker of Odessa, FL, Wayne (Laurie) Strohaker of Brandon, FL, and William Strohaker of Lamar, AR and a daughter, Gabrielle (Harry) Smith of Clarksville, AR; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and a wealth of true and wonderful friends.
Connie grew up on a farm in Ohio near the Ohio River until mid-teenage years when her family moved to Tampa, FL. After her marriage, she followed her husband around the United States during his Naval Career…living in Rhode Island, California and various ports in Florida. She became the epitome of a Navy wife…tending to her family and other Navy wives while her sailor was off protecting our country…sometimes on very long deployments.
Trying to give her children a normal childhood (not a military Brat's childhood) and a taste of the country that she grew up in, they lived in the country outside of Orlando for several years, where the children had room to roam and ride their horses. During this time, Connie also became a real estate broker and had a successful business in Oviedo, FL. With John's retirement from the Navy, they moved to a farm in Harmony before eventually settling on Piney Bay in Knoxville. There Connie's interest in gardening had a blank canvas where she had hundreds of roses and thousands of daylilies. Besides cultivating flowers, she cultivated friends wherever she lived. Besides family…friends were of the next importance.
Connie was not a church goer, but she was saved and had a daily personal relationship with her Savior. She believed in the power of prayer and one of her favorite sayings were ''God don't make mistakes.'' So don't be sad…Connie is where she always knew she would be.
Connie's memorial will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 9:30 A.M. at the Roller Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, AR. Interment will be in the Ft. Smith National Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 22, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie's memory to Gary Sinise Foundation, org., Johnson County Senior Center, Arkansas Hospice or Knoxville Fire Department.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home, online guestbook available at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/clarksville

Loved this lady so much She and my sister, Sharon, were great friends growing up in Porterfield. They shared so much and as a little sister, I watched from afar. It was hard on her friends when her family moved as it broke up the group of teens. But they managed to stay in touch and enjoy that friendship for many many years. I will miss this find lady when I go to Porterfield each year for our reunion of the community. She was always there spreading joy and sunshine. RIP, my friend.
