Billy Norman Duncan

of Sardis, AR

May 27, 1933 - January 11, 2019

Bill Duncan, 85, died Friday, January 11, 2019, in his home at Sardis, AR. He was born May 27, 1933, in Hartford, AR, to Ted and Lola Duncan. He played football and basketball at Arkansas Tech. Later, he transferred to the College of the Ozarks and became the Captain of the football team and graduated in 1955. There he met the love of his life, Sylvia Dee Styles. They were married on August 25, 1956. He obtained his Master's Degree in Education at Arkansas State Teachers College.

They moved to Gruver, Texas, and resided there for 38 years. He started out teaching in the Gruver School System, and later became the Gruver Junior High Principal until he retired in 1993.

In 1994, he moved back to Sardis, AR, to enable his wife to care for her mother. After her mother's death in 2000, he remained in Sardis, AR, and preached at the North Little Rock Church of Christ and River Street Church of Christ. He truly had a servant's heart, as he assisted many people in his church community.

Bill is survived by his son, Danny Duncan, and sister, Lucia (Jim) Odem.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Lola Duncan; siblings: Betty Clinger, Harold Duncan, and Sue Cheek; extended family: Uncle Jessie and Aunt Rhea Pitchford, Spot and Elsie Reid, and Jimmy Pitchford.

A special appreciation of thanks to all of Bill's caregivers.

Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home on 306 South Main Street, Benton, AR, 72015, followed by the funeral service at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christian Relief Fund at P.O. Box 19670, Amarillo, TX, 79114.

I loved both Bill and Sylvia, dearly. So many fond cherished memories of them. Danny my heart breaks for you as you loose both at the same time, but I know you know they didn’t want to be apart. Be strong and may God grant you peace and comfort!

Mr. & Mrs. Duncan was a big part of my life growing up in Gruver. From the days in Mrs. Duncan's kindergarten at the Gruver Church of Christ and Mr. Duncan's science classes at Gruver Junior High School. You also couldn't have found a better couple of coaches for us junior high kids than Mr. Duncan and Mr. Dorman. They not only taught us how to play the game, but how to be winners in life. RIP Mr. and Mrs. Duncan.
