Jon Dale Hendrix, Sr. 67, of Evening Shade died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at his home. Born July 15, 1942, in Osceola, he was the youngest of ten children born to Rebecca Jane and Walter Samuel Hendrix.
He graduated from Osceola High School. Jon was a supervisor for 17 years the American Greetings Corporation in Osceola and then was a supervisor for GenCorp in Batesville for 17 years also. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Evening Shade. He really enjoyed his twelve years of retirement by traveling and spending countless hours with his five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lena Hendrix of Evening Shade; one son, Jon Hendrix, Jr. of West Plains, MO; one daughter, Audra Hendrix of Evening Shade; and two adopted daughters, Lisa Farris of Batesville and Jennifer Foster of Atoka, TN; one brother, Walter Samuel Hendrix, Jr. of Jackson, TN; one sister, Becky Jo Williams of Harrison, AR; and five grandchildren: Matthew, Mark & Luke Blevins of Bethesda, and Magen and Mia Hendrix of West Plains, MO; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
His humility, compassion, loyalty and thoughtfulness made him the best father, husband, brother and friend to those who knew and loved him best. ''Pop'' will be greatly missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Larry Fikes, Ronnie Qualls, Spencer Hartman, Boyd Hendrix, Jr., Jerry Ewing and Josh Farris. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Greg Neaville and Dave Lawrence.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home in Osceola officiated by James Roller. Frank Hendrix will sing and play.
Burial will follow the services at Mississippi County Memorial Gardens in Osceola under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight at Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home in Cave City.
