Funeral services for Ray Henry Dawson, Sr., 69, of Lexa, Arkansas, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the Lexa Baptist Church in Lexa, AR.
Mr. Dawson was born February 20, 1937, in Barton, Arkansas to Raymond Vanburen and Elgin McClendon Dawson. He died June 11, 2006, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was a farmer and a member of the Lexa Baptist Church.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his mother Elgin Crynne McClendon Dawson of Lexa, AR., his wife Luetta Richmond Dawson of Lexa, AR., 2 sons; Ray Henry Dawson, Jr. of Brickeys, AR., and Terry L. Smith of Kansas City, Kansas, 2 daughters; Janelle D. Stoner-Sellers of Earle, AR., and Montie T. Hobson of Rogers, AR., 10 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a brother Van Dawson, Sr. of Lexa, AR., and a sister Cecilia D. Rose of Brickeys, AR. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Vanburen Dawson and a son Steven Ray Dawson.
Visitation will be 6 - 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home (870) 572-2571.

I have fond childhood memories of Ray allowing us poor county boys to frequently play basketball in the converted shop/gymnasium at his home. I guess he knew we really didn't have any other place to play. That simple gesture of sharing stands out in my mind. Today I try to remember this example when given the opportunity to help others. I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Ray's passing and know what a loss that will be for you all. I can certainly say that he was a positive impact in my childhood and early adolescence, and I have many fond and wonderful memories of the time that I spent with your family.
