Virginia Morris Edwards

of Conway, AR

May 18, 1917 - May 13, 2006

Virginia Morris Edwards, age 88, of Conway died Saturday, May 13th, 2006. She was born in Buckhorn, Arkansas, May 18th, 1917 to the late Robert W. and Rosa Lea Maines Morris. She was preceded in death by her sister: Claudine M. Johnson, grandson: Kevin Edwards and the father of her children: Charles B. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was a remarkable woman, mother, and friend. She taught herself to play the piano by ear, never learning to read a note of music and playing the piano for the Conway First Baptist Church. Later in life she and her daughter Sue went to nursing homes and various facilities to entertain the residents, Virginia playing the piano and Sue on the accordion. The adventuresome side of Mrs. Edwards is reflected in the coast to coast trips she and her husband Charles took on a motorcycle in the 1930's seeing what our nation had to offer from the Worlds Fair to Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks before children and businesses consumed their lives. Virginia was later employed by UCA for many years before her retirement as the Switchboard operator of the university and also penned a collection of her thoughts entitled, "Welcome To My Life".

She is survived by her three children: Frank Edwards and wife Liz of Argyle, Texas; Robert Edwards and wife Karen of Conway; and Sue Markman of Springdale; by her nine grandchildren: Kimberly Pool of Vilonia, Chris Edwards of Carrollton, Texas, Lauren and Claire Edwards of Argyle, Texas; Bob Edwards and wife Sherry, Laura Cato and husband Paul, Anna Edwards (all of Conway), Dr. Clint Edwards and wife Angie of Jonesboro, and Shawn Markman of Springdale; and six great-grandchildren: Haley Pool, Rob and Ryan Edwards, Abby and Adam Edwards, and Emily Cato.

Graveside services are Thursday, 1:00 pm, May 18th, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock officiated by Rev. John Greer. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501.327.7727).

I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Edward's passing. She was wonderful to visit with. She was at Trillium Park when Richard's parents were residents there. Truly an amazing woman! Deepest sympathies to the family. Mrs. Edwards is safe and she is home.

I have so many wonderful memories of summertime in Conway and my Aunt Virginia. A long time ago, now, but seems only a moment. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Frank, Robert and Sue. I think about you all often, about those "golden years" in our pasts. Love, Rhea

Dear Frank, Robert and Sue - too many years since we've seen each other face to face! So sorry for your loss! While Mom and Dad ( Martha and Alton Foster) were living in Bella Vista, they told me that Virginia and Sue were in Springdale? They were glad they had the chance to see them ! Mom has been gone for 13 years this July, and Dad has been gone for 4 years this past January! Rhea, Mary Beth, Lowry, and possibly Jim and I will be in Little Rock, June 24th for Lowry's youngest daughters wedding! Any chance of getting together with any of you? We'd love to catch up! Robert and all, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your Mom and the poems that she would recite from time to time; she was an wonderful lady. My mom, Truman Garrison, is in St. Andrews and Mom met Mrs. Edwards and they would visit from time to time. Your mom left a mark on my life even the short time that I knew her. My God help you all through this hard time. Tammy Morrison

Frank, Robert and Sue, I was so sorry to read of your mother's death in the paper this morning. I was also surprised that I had a cousin living in Jonesboro. We moved to Cabot in April and have been real busy trying to get house in order. I will see you on Wednesday night as I have to be in Jonesboro for a coffee that is being given for me on Thursday. Love, Jo Ann
