John Allen Dresbach, music, worship, and drama leader for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention leadership and worship team, died May 1, 2006 at the age of 65 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock. A member of the ABSC staff since January 1, 2001, Dresbach coordinated state convention music, worked with adult and youth choirs, led music conferences and encouraged and equipped church leaders in music, worship and leadership ministries. He has led the Arkansas Master's Singers since August of 2001 and was a member of the 100 voice singing group, THE CENTURYMEN. He also served as a second vice president of the ABSC and as president of the Arkansas Baptist Religious Educators Association. As an accomplished musician, he organized and presented concerts in churches and to groups across the state of Arkansas and cities around the nation and the world. He wrote the official hymn for the 150th anniversary celebration of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

Dresbach, who held a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Master of Music Education from Memphis State University, served as a music teacher in the Wilson Public Schools and at Rivercrest High School in Wilson, Arkansas from 1963-74. He served as associate minister of music, assistant in University/Singles, and organist at the Central Baptist in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He also served as part-time assistant minister of music and artist in residence at the First Baptist Church of Benton, Arkansas. His passion was to lead people in authentic, heart-felt worship. "John's tremendous gift for music was enhanced by a work ethic that went beyond what anyone could expect," said Emil Turner, ABSC executive director. "He was more than a minister of music; he was a servant whose only desires were to please the Lord and bless those he served. He set a standard for all of us and we will miss him tremendously." Dresbach of Flint, Michigan; two sisters; Faye Rogers of Wilson, Arkansas, and Frances Gray of Blytheville, Arkansas, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and his beloved niece, Helen Rogers. I always enjoyed John's talent and friendship. He played the piano for me to sing and we sang together sometime. Lucky Me! There are songs that remind me of John. He had a way of adding something special to music, truly unforgettable. I miss John but I'm sure he is having many wonderful times with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for being a great friend, John. ♥️

I extend my deepest condolences to the Dresbach Family. Mr. Dresbach (John) was my music instructor at Rivercrest High School at Wilson, Arkansas. He was a wonderful teacher, friend and counselor. There are so many fond memories of him, especially during the times of preparation for the school plays. I participated in "Possum Holler" (in which he wrote), "Lil' Abner", "The Music Man", "Bye, Bye, Birdie", "Andercleos & the Lion" and others. He was always vibrant and so full of life. His spirit will be greatly missed and I will hold in fond remembrance. In Heaven today there is new music from a new mastreo. Rest in peace Mr. Dresbach. I was actually on this site for another friend and had not hard of John's passing till I saw it just now... I'm so saddened, to know your family and our world has lost such a rare, gifted and inspirational talent. He will be missed by many of us who crossed his path. In my case, John was one who stumbled into my life from time to time in Jonesboro, Blytheville, and in Memphis where he'd play so beautifully for many weddings where I would sing. Each time we met he was always a smiling face and a spiritual reminder of how we all should live our lives. Your family will be in my toughts and prayers.

My heart grieves with the loss of John. He was truly a man of God, and one of the most talented people I have ever had the opportunity to hear. He was minister of music at West Sherman Baptist Church years ago, I rejoice that his beautiful voice and music will now be in Heavens choir for all eternity, and look forward to seeing him again one fine day.

John sang at our wedding in November of 1966. Prior to that I knew him from his work at First Baptist of Wilson, AR. I enjoyed many hours of listening to him sing and to him playing the piano with Polly Leftwich playing the organ. He played at my Mother, Louise Lynch's funeral in 1999, and even though he hadn't seen her in many years, he remembered that she wanted him to play at her funeral and she wanted him to play "Somewhere My Love." He was truly a gifted singer and piano player and a wonderful Christian. I know he is leading songs in Heaven andplaying the piano for God. He will be sorely missed!

My family and I will all miss John so much. I still think fondly on he, Daddy, Cathy, Bob and Nancy singing at church when I was little. My middle son, Zach, is learning to play the piano now, and John worked so hard last year to help me find a good piano for him. We loved listening to John because he was so talented, but it's the little things we'll miss too. So sorry for all our loss.

I met Mr. Dresbach at a fundraiser about a year ago, where he was performing. My daughter, who is a bidding pianist age 9, was also invited to the fundraiser to especially hear Mr. Dresbach play the piono. The head of the fundraiser wanted her to hear a gift pianist and of course she and the rest of us did that evening. As we sat there and listened so intently she quietly leaned over and asked, Momma, how does he know all the notes to all the songs? And I replied, that he was a gifted performer and someday she could play with out music too. As Mr. Dresbach signed my autographs he wrote a special note to Catherine encouraging her to follow her dreams and continue playing the piano and she is doing both. We were saddened to hear of the passing of such a great man. And know someday soon we will hear his beautiful playing once again

I was so blessed to know John Dresbach as a minister and friend. He played the piano and sang so beautifully. And I couldn't have asked for a better accompanist as I played a French horn solo in high school. He also encouraged me as he worked with us in the Singles Dept. at Central Baptist. He will be missed by so many, but I know I'll see him again.

John was a good friend to me and my family. I have followed his illness and have been praying for him. Now he is with the Lord, out of his suffering and we will see him again. My prayers go out to you his family. May it comfort you to know where he is, and the fact that he was loved by so many of us. He was such a thoughtful person. Not long ago when my sister died, John called to say he was praying for us. Even though he was sick, he still thought of others. May God bless you in a special way during these days of grief. I'm praying for you. Love in Christ, Mrs. Dorothy Jackson

I was a member of Central Baptist Church during John's tenure there. He was a sweet and wonderful man with a great love for music and the Lord. He was such a joyful person. I loved to hear him play the piano or the organ. He even played at my wedding 4 years ago. I will miss him but I know he is up in heaven, probably conducting a chorus of angels singing to the Lord.
