Like many other children who grew up in Wilson, I have Mrs. Beall, and my mother, to thank for instilling in me a love of reading. Mrs. Beall was never too busy to help me select the perfect book, or to sit in a chair and read to a group of children. I was always fascinated by the way she could bring a story to life. I'll never forget her encouragement in convincing me to check out books "up the stairs" even though I was still the right age for the "downstairs" books. Although she wasn't in a classroom, she was an excellent teacher. She will be greatly missed.
