Fred Bollinger was born March 20, 1924, at home in West Memphis, Arkansas, to Oliver Isaac and Tassye Pace Bollinger. He is preceded in death by his wife, Syble Sims Bollinger and his sister, Mary Bollinger Bretherick. He is survived by one brother, Richard Klein Bollinger; two sons, Fred Jr. (Betty) and Mike (Linda) of West Memphis; four grandchildren, Laura Cassidy (Daniel) of Stafford, Virginia, John Bollinger (Meredith) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Shane Hart of Proctor, Lindsey Allen of West Memphis; and three great grandchildren, Mack Bollinger, Michael and Abigail Cassidy.
Mr. Bollinger graduated from Hulbert High in 1942 and turned down a football scholarship to Mississippi State to join the Navy. He was stationed on the Galapagos Islands as flight chief with Navy Air Corps guarding the Panama Canal. Mr. Bollinger was Vice President of Southland Greyhound Park, served on the board of Bank of West Memphis, was a member of First United Methodist Church, and farmed for 61 years. He also played catcher for Hughes softball team that placed in the nationals, coached little league, and was scout leader for troop 292.
