Ruth Snow

of Marshall, AR

December 22, 2015

Ruth Snow, age 101, was born June 10, 1914 at Snowball, Arkansas, to Ernest and Pearl Dean. She went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton. She married Hollin Snow on March 9, 1928, at Marsena, and they made their home at Snowball until 1942, when they moved to the Baker community and lived on the family farm.

Ruth is survived by 4 children, Maxine and husband Arvel Ragland of Marshall; Willie Harris of Marshall; Freddie and husband James McBride of Tulsa, OK ; and Benny Snow of Catoosa, OK. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and son-in-law, Donnie Chisum of Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pearl Dean; her husband, Hollin Snow; one son, Donald Snow; one daughter, Frances Chisum; two grandsons, Eddie Ray Pruett and Rickey Snow; one granddaughter, Sandra Snow; and one great-grandson, Ryan Ragland.

Ruth was always a dedicated wife and mother, and spent many hours preparing wonderful meals to serve the Snow clan and anyone else who just happened to drop by for Sunday dinner. Some of her family favorites were fried pies, chocolate gravy, brown beans, and pineapple pie. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing and making quilts for many of her children and grandchildren. She always raised a big garden, and worked tirelessly preserving the harvest. Ruth was a charter member of Marshall Community Church, where she led congregational singing until recent years. She had her spunky personality, and each time her children and grandchildren visited with her, they enjoyed listening as she recounted in her own special way her experiences and family memories living in Searcy County. She spent her life serving the Lord and was always an example to her family. Her greatest desire was for all of her family to give their hearts and lives to God.

Funeral services for Ruth will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Phillip Clark and Bro. Donnie Chisum officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Harris, Philip Turner, Gary Dale Snow, Sean Snow, Nelson Ragland and William Snow. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley McBride, Jeff Ragland, Tim Ragland, Gary Don Snow and Bentley Massey.

I am the daughter of Lawson and Anie McCutcheon Hollin and I are first cousins. I don't know if any of the family still remembers me but I wanted to express my sympathy to the family. I remember the long braid of hair Ruth wore years ago. I spent some time at your home when I was a child and My husband and I stopped in at the nursing home in Marshall and had a nice visit with Ruth and shared some memories. Wish we could have spent more time with you all.

To the family: I was so sorry to hear of Mrs. Snow's passing. My mother -'granny' as she was known at Marshall Community Church attended church there before I married and moved away. I remember Mrs. Snow and Mr. Snow got happy in church. They were not ashamed of their Lord and they were genuine in the love and worship of the Lord. Now she and Mr. Snow and Frances are together again. Precious lady and precious family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. May God wrap his big arms around you and comfort you all. Sincerely, Martha Mulford

Benny and Donny,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. It has been a long time since I have seen Ruth, but she was always so very sweet when I would stay with Francis. Many memories that are so precious of all of you. Love and prayers go out to you. Sherrlene

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things that we have to endure. The Bible offers us some comfort, thought. At Revelation 21:3,4 we are told "3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This is a promise made to us by our loving God Jehovah that we can see our loved ones again in the future. While this is a very difficult time for you, I hope that this thought can bring you some comfort.

To Benny and the Snow Family,

I remember many years back riding the school bus home with classmates Benny and Frances and from that I have sweet memories of your mother and dad. You have been lucky to have her in your life for such a long time. I bet she is singing in heaven right now. My sympathy goes out to you in this time of loss.
