of Greenbrier, AR
March 1, 1939 - July 26, 2014
Edward Powell Hammontree, 75, of Greenbrier, AR passed from this life on July 26, 2014. He was born in Fayetteville, AR on March 1, 1939 to the late John Lee and Bethel Douglas Hammontree. Ed was a past member of the Greenbrier School board, retired from Kimberly Clark, and served as a Deacon for Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenbrier and was a regular volunteer of the church food pantry. He started Circle H Auction Company in 1981 and was a veteran of the United States Army. Ed never met a stranger and loved everyone he met; just being around him would make you feel better. He loved singing and dancing, and would attempt to play various musical instruments such as the Dobro but was known to be a skillful drummer. "I am a jack of all trades and master of none", was a favorite saying of his. Ed was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 49 years; Linda Lou Love Hammontree, their two children; Lori Hammontree Reynolds (Terry) and Shawn Edward Hammontree (Tonya), seven grandchildren; Mitchell Reynolds, Haley Reynolds, Mallori Kunkel, Travis Kunkel, Sarah Hammontree, Meredith Hammontree, and Reese Hammontree, one great-grandchild; Ryder Reynolds, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lula Mae Fiser.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 1:00pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Brother Martin Jameson officiating and burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00pm at the church prior to the service.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Food Pantry or to the Faulkner County Humane Society.
Linda and family, we grieve with you. Ed was a great friend, and our lives are richer for knowing him. Love, Gail & Bill Bentley
So sorry to hear of Eddie's passing. My fondest memory of him in high school was in a class that we had together and we talked most of the time...but we did pass the class somehow!
My husband, Bob, was also a classmate. I lost Bob on July 8th last month so I know the sorrow that is in your hearts at this time.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Brenda Treadway Williams
So sorry to hear of about Eddie. I have wonderful memories of spending time in the swing set at his folks house in the summer while he and Linda watched all of us play. I always enjoyed when he and his family would come back to Centerton for a visit. I enjoyed hearing the stories that he and my older brother would tell about growing up in Centerton and attending church at FBC Centerton. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Becky Kay Coffelt Pierce

Linda, Lori, Shawn and family,
I will remember Ed very fondly, I never saw him that he didn't have a smile or a hug for me. I will miss him, so I can only image how much his family will miss him. But he will be with the angels having fun. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
Words fall short in trying to describe my sense of loss. Ed was my friend & neighbor, who always had a smile & made me laugh & feel better every time we crossed paths! Now he can dance & play those drums in Heaven, to his heart's content! Goodbye my friend.
We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers
during this difficult time.
Shawn, I never met your Dad and only know you through our Devil's Fork fishing tournament, but after reading all of the friend's condolences, I feel like I missed a fine man. I now understand how you turned out a fine young man.
Linda and family,
My heart is so saddened by Ed’s loss. Although I did not get to know him for as long as most of the Dorcas clan, knowing Ed was loving Ed. He had such an amazing gift of making those he was around feel like family. Our family has such fond memories of the time he came to NC for a visit - never a dull moment. What an amazing spirit – thankful for the promise that we will meet again in heaven!
Dear Shawn and family, I lost my Dad fifty years ago, and can remember, so vividly, the hole it left in my heart. As evidenced by all the testimonies given in this guestbook, your dad was a kind and loving Christian man. We can see the fruits of his labor in you and the great work you do for our church. May God fill the hole in your heart with His "Peace beyond all understanding" and the "Blessed Assurance" that you will see him again someday. Know that we love you and your family. Gene and Linda
Linda,Shawn,Lori,
My prayers are with all of you and your families. Ed was always so special to me and I always thought of him with a smile on my face because of some of his sweet antics. Like the time he told me what a good auctioneer he was "I even sold a stump that was still in the ground" he told me. Ed was a wonderful friend.
Linda I am so sorry for your loss of Ed. I am glad I got to visit with Ed at Baker Eye Clinic several years ago a few times. Nice Christian man. My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family. May God Bless You and Comfort you.
Ecclesiastes declares there is nothing new under the sun, so you've heard it all by now. But my heart goes out to one beautiful family - Linda, Lori, Shawn and the rest of the flock. Ed was a special friend who lifted me every time we met. And our last meeting, a really good one, was at Bethlehem Homecoming in June. I long for the day when we all meet with our cherished loved ones in Glory. God bless you during this time.
The world has lost one of the finest men I've ever known. I will miss his laughter and always positive mind set! Linda, I'm so very sorry for your tremendous loss. You are in my prayers and thoughts. Please know I'm here if you need anything! Love you my friend!
Linda, Lori and Shawn (and families): I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Ed was one fine role model to me during my time at K-C. I'm a better man because of the time he put into my character. Rev. 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Love to you all, Eric
Dear Linda, Lori and family.
I am so sorry to hear the news of Ed's passing, but rejoicing in knowing he is with the LORD. He was a really good man and will be greatly missed. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to know him personally over the years and thankful to have been able to call him my friend as well as being his banker. Praying for you all during this time of loss and the days ahead.

One of the nicest happiest people I have ever known. Only time I ever saw him angry was for someone else not being treated fairly. Good person. Stand up guy. He will be missed but heaven is much improved with his presence! Peace of the the Lord to all the lives he touched!

Dear Lori...so sorry to hear of your Father's passing...I know you are heartbroken at the fact that he is not here with you anymore but know that for sure he is watching over you & your family...He was so precious to so many people...there will be a hole in our community heart with him gone. God bless & give you all strength through this most difficult time...xo
Linda, Lori & Shawn -
I was so devastated to hear of your incredible loss. My prayers are with you all during this time & in the days & months ahead. Hold your memories close, and the Good Lord closer.
Ed was an amazing man, husband, & father. I remember all the great times at your home while growing up. He was always there with fun & quick wit, but a steady hand of reprimand if we tried to do something out of line. I will miss his greeting that I always loved to hear..."Hey, Kid! How're you doing?" R.I.P., Ed. You are loved and will be greatly missed.
We never have so many friends we can afford to lose even one. But to lose a best friend of 63 years, really hurts. In time the hurt will go away and be replaced by only fond and happy memories. Vic
Sadly, I didn't get to spend much time with Eddie, but my first and lasting opinion of him was that he was a sweet kind soul, genuine through and through. I enjoy hearing Vic tell of the times he and Eddie shared just being boys doing things ornery growing boys do. They also shared a moment in history when, as members of the National Guard, they were part of the patrol at the school in Little Rock when the school was integrated, and they saw the threatening crowds.
They shared life over 63 years. Not many people get to experience lasting friendships like that.
What a gift Eddie was to all fortunate enough to have known him. Edie
To the Family,
There are no words to describe the emptiness we will all feel with Mr. Ed's passing. He was always enjoyable to be around, whether it was in the store, at a ballgame, or an auction. He always had a joke or a smile on his face.
My prayers are with his family during this time and may God put his loving arms around you and give you comfort. God Bless All of You
Linda & family,
I am so sorry to read of Mr. Ed's passing, but we all know he is at home in heaven of which he often sang about to others. Mr. Ed was so good to work with us on the auction of my dad, James Champlin's, earthly possessions, He helped set us at ease at one of the most stressful times in mine and Mom's life. I remember he used to lead singing at our church and was married to Ms. Linda Lou, of which I thought was just the most wonderful thing! I will be praying for strength and peace for each of you as you say goodbye to Mr. Ed, but I know we will see him again one day when we all get to heaven! God bless and keep you all in His hands. Love, Brenda Champlin Yarbrough and Mrs. Mary Champlin
So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He and my dad (Al Skinner) were good friends. When dad was sick, Ed visited him and came to his visitation and funeral. Very nice, sweet and funny man. He will be missed by many. Please let me know if we can do anything for the family. May God Bless yall and give you comfort and strength.
My thoughts and prayers are with The family. I have so many memories of Mr. Ed. He nicknamed my mom "Beener" and me "Beener 2". That name has stuck with me :-). I always enjoyed his story and joke telling. Many many laughs. I always loved him.
God has gained an awesome angel.
May God wrap His loving arms around the family and comfort them.

Norma and I were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. After reading his wonderful obituary, it is evident that he will be missed by all who loved him and knew him. What joy you must have in the midst of your grief, knowing that he is in the presence of our Lord. I am sure he would tell you, "Please do not weep for me.
