So sorry to hear about your loss, I meet Joe back in the early eighty's, he was such a fun loving guy. I know he touched a lot of lives, he will be truly missed.

I am sorry to hear that Joe passed away. I taught with Joe at Atkins for many years and we carpooled from Russellville. He was a great friend and a great teacher. I will miss Joe.

Mr. Funderburg had a real passion for teaching, two things I will not forget about his class are dissecting James Taylor's song "Fire and Rain", lyrics became so much more than words after this...and encouraging to use my mind to write creatively, this made English... a class I could not tolerate, enjoyable. When a teacher can create memories that last more than 25 years, they have truly made an impact. He will be missed

So sad to hear of Joe's passing. We taught together for many years. We taught next door to each other for the last several. He was a super teacher, friend, and colleague. He will always live on in our hearts and super good memories.

So sad to hear this news about my classmate. My heart goes out to the family. Rest in peace, Joe.

What a brilliant man. I worked with him at Lavaca. He was special and well- loved by all of us there. My sympathies to his family.

I always have many good memories of Joe Funderburg, as he was my English teacher for three years--7th, 8th and 11th grades, while he was teaching and coaching in Lincoln. I continued to think of him and his classes often throughout my career as a high school journalism, English and speech teacher.
My sincerest condolences to his family.

I am sad to hear of his passing. Mr. Hindenburg was one of my favorites. After he left Atkins, I often wondered how he was. He was one of those teachers who stood out. He always encouraged my writing and loved sharing one of his passions. Mr Funderburg, thank you for investing your time and passion in my life.
To his girls, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I always felt I knew you tho we never met, he spoke of his girls often in class

Mr. Funderburg was one of my all-time favorite teachers! He fostered my love for reading & writing poetry.. Very sad to hear of his passing. I could immediately recall the names of his daughters, even after 20+ years of being in his class. He talked about them a lot with much affection. Love & prayers to the family!
