John William Nalley, age 78, of Benton left this life to walk with the Lord he adored on Saturday, June 15th. He was born in Benton on July 17th, 1934, to Charlie and Daisy Nalley. He was a 1953 graduate of Benton High School and served his country in the United States Navy, where he was trained in Microwave Radio Technology. He used this training while working in the Communications Division for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for over thirty-five years, where he retired. He was a lifetime member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church for seventy years, where he taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendant, Treasurer and served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by the first love of his life, Carolyn Broadway Nalley, his parents and seven siblings, Carl "Boose"Nalley, Louis Nalley, Doris Wright, Elizabeth "Babe" McPherson, Charlene Beaty, Martha Ann Rogers and Leeman Nalley.
He is survived by the second love of his life, Ruby James Nalley. He is also survived by two sons, Kenny and wife Lolita of Tull and John Doyle and wife Carolyn of Benton. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his three grandchildren, Jerra Wren Nalley of Fayetteville, Chance William Nalley of Fayetteville and Lucas Hayward Nalley of Conway. Also surviving are 3 brothers and sister -in -laws, Leroy Nalley and wife Patsy Ruth, Willis "Coke" Nalley and wife Bonnie, Ted Nalley and wife Sylvia. Dick Beaty, brother-in-law and Myrtle Nalley, sister- in- law. John is also survived by step children, Jerry James and wife Patsy, Gary James and wife Renee and Nancy Fischer and husband Steve. He is also survived by step grandchildren, Shelly and husband Chris Bewley and Brady James, Jana James Tolar and husband Wes, Josh James and wife Rebekah and Jade James Ray and husband Jordan and Caleb Fischer. He was also preceded by stepson Roger James. He is also survived by numerous friends and family whose lives he touched in a special way. He invested his life in the lives of others.
We remember him for his humor, patience, compassion, charity and his love of life as well as his willingness to help anyone in need. He kept these traits in spite of his recent illness.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Don Broadway, Earl Smith, Carroll Bono, Robert McPherson, Scotty Nalley, Chett Woodall, David Woodall and Dicky Moore.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17th, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. A celebration of John's life will be held on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Benton, services conducted by Rev. Glenn Tropp and Rev. Richard Hamlin. Burial at Sharon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Daisy Nalley and Carolyn Nalley Memorial Scholarship Fund benefiting the Texarkana Children's Orphanage in care of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.
