of Fox, AR
April 8, 1923 - May 23, 2013
Dana Faye (Best) Davis died peacefully at her home on May 23, 2013. She was born April 8, 1923 in Brewer, AR, the 8th of 10 children. She grew up in a poor farm family during the Depression years.
On December 9, 1940, she married George Isaac Davis. In the following two years, they lost two baby girls, both are buried in Copper Springs Cemetery in Brewer, AR. During World War II, Ike served in the armed forces and Dana worked on the home front as a welder in the shipyards in California. In 1945, after being wounded twice, Ike was evacuated back to the states with permanent disabilities. Shortly after Ike's return, he and Dana bought a place in Mtn. View, AR. During their 5 years there, the remaining 4 children were born: Edna in 1946, Sue in 1948, Sharon in 1949, and Dwight in 1950.
Although Dana had previously dedicated her life to God, it wasn't until 1941 that she felt the call into the ministry. Then in 1951, Dana and Ike moved to Fox, AR. After the move, Dana and her children started attending the little Pentecostal church in Sky Land. It was there in 1951 that she submitted completely to God's divine call on her life and began her preaching ministry. A few years later, she was officially ordained. She preached in a lot of small country churches over the next 15 years, then in 1966 and 1967, she pioneered and helped with the carpentry work building the Turkey Creek Trinity Pentecostal Church. She pastored there for 45 years. During that time, in spite of many hardships, she remained faithful to God, her family, and the church. She officiated at baby dedications, baptismal services, weddings, and funerals and was always willing to serve others in any way that she could. She tried to instill christian values and taught by example as she lived her christian principles. Her strong faith helped her to approach the hard times in life with the attitude, "I can do whatever I need to do because God will strengthen me." By her undaunted spirit of caring and her indomitable courage in the face of adversity, she taught us all the true meaning of christianity. Because of her steadfast dedication, most of her children and grandchildren are involved in various forms of christian ministry. Her family, church family, and the community were truly blessed by her life of sacrifice, courage, and service to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Rebecca (Jeffrey) Best and Chester Cost Best, her husband of 51 years, George Isaac Davis, their first two infant daughters, Lola Amajean and Georgeana Davis, one son-in-law, Robert Huddler, and 8 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by four of her children who all reside in Fox, AR, Edna Huddler, Thelma Sue Bullard, Sharon Callahan and her husband Floyd, and Lewis Dwight Davis and his wife Pam. She has 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Ada Linn of St. Maries, Idaho and many other relatives and friends. She was much loved and respected and we will all miss her, but she's only gone around the bend in the road ahead of us. And if we follow in her footsteps, she'll be there waiting to welcome us when we get home.
To the family of Sis.Davis:May God hold you in the palm of His hand!
My condolences to the family, May God fill the void in your heart and give you peace through this sorrowful time
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. What a legacy of faith Sister Dana leaves behind as she sees the lights of Home!
Sorry to hear about Mrs. Davis but thank The Lord we know she is doing well now!! When I was a little girl I pretended I was Mrs Davis and made the whole family let me preach sermons to them every day while most kids were playing with dolls or trucks I was trying to preach like Mrs. Davis. Love you guys and I'm praying for you all!
Thank you for caring enough to give us the messages God gave you.
I grew up with the Davis children, Sharon being one of my best friends thru out the school years and even now. She called me shortly after her Mother's passing to let me know that she had gone to be with Jesus. I know Ms Dana loved the Lord with all her heart. And I love Ms. Dana. I always tried to stop in to see her when I was home and it was almost like going to my own home, after I no longer had a Mom to go visit. She was a very kind lady to me and I will miss her very much. So sorry for your loss Edna, Sharon, Dwight and Susie God Bless Always Carter and Louise Conrad
OUR PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.
Not only was my Grandma (pastor) continually planting the seeds of Gods word in my heart, she loved each one of us greatly. I always knew she was going to prayer for us. I will always cherish my time spent with her, and look forward to our reunion again in Heaven.
So sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with the family.
