Leroy Silver, age 87, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Friday, September 14, 2012, in Mountain Home.
The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 511 Coley Drive, in Mountain Home, with The Reverend William Deneke officiating. Interment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens, Mountain Home, Arkansas and Mt. Horeb Cemetery, Sturgeon, Missouri.
Leroy Silver was born October 8, 1924, in Sturgeon, Missouri, the son of William Jesse and Kate Smith Silver. Leroy moved to Mountain Home in 1992 from St. Jacinto, California with his wife Pat, after his retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he worked as a supervising surveyor. Prior to his work with the Corps, Leroy worked as a surveyor with the Coast and Geodetic Survey, a U.S. federal agency, mapping and charting in Alaska before it became a state. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Leroy loved woodworking, gardening, fishing, bird watching, reading the Bible and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife Irlene (Pat) Silver; daughter Deborah Silver (and husband William Deneke): Atlanta, Georgia; and stepdaughter Barbara Snyder (and husband Bob): Altoona, Pennsylvania; one stepson Kirk Green (and wife Sharon): Tucson, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews from his side of the family and a host of nieces and nephews on his wife's side of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers J.R and Raymond Silver, and his sisters Ruth Haney and Jessie Mae Reams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 2221 Arkansas 7, Harrison, Arkansas 72601 or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
