Joe Allen Sims, age 74, of Conway, Arkansas, passed away Monday April 9, 2012. He was born March 27, 1938 in Little Rock, Arkansas, a son of the late Opie H. and Lois Vernelle Sims.
Joe was a member and cofounder of Ducks Unlimited of Arkansas and a Captain in the United States Army from 1962 to 1966. His hobbies included duck hunting, skeet shooting, and collecting rifles and guns.
Joe is survived by his wife of 16 years, Brenda C. Sims of Conway, Arkansas, son, Denny Sims of Vilonia, Arkansas and daughter, Charlotte Sims-Towner of Jacksonville, Arkansas, one brother, Corporal Don Sims of Quitman, Arkansas, who is an Arkansas State Police retiree, two step-children, Dewey Foster and Lonez Havens both of Conway, Arkansas, one step-granddaughter, Angela Stuckey of Conway, Arkansas, and one step-great-granddaughter, Savannah Waddle of Conway, Arkansas.
Memorial services for Joe Allen Sims will be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway (501-327-7727), at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday April 14, 2012, with Robert Logan officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charlotte Towner in person or at Arvest Bank on behalf of Brenda C. Sims.
My thoughts are with you at the passing of Joe Allen. He was one of my basketball teammates, graduating in 1955 from Quitman. My sympathy to all the family.
