Joe "Chicago" Huss

of Batesville, AR

January 26, 1971 - March 24, 2012

"Chicago" Joe Huss, 41, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Born on January 26, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Philip J. and Toni C. (Sorenson) Huss. He graduated in 1990 from Cord-Charlotte High School and he worked for the Independence County Road Department. He was a member of Believers' Community Church. Joe was a Chicago sports fanatic. He followed all the Chicago area teams: the Bears, the Bulls, and the Blackhawks. Joe was also a die-hard NASCAR fan, and he loved Mark Martin. He was a member of a Chicago fantasy NASCAR league and every year for the past ten years, he and his father would travel to Talladega, Alabama for the annual NASCAR race. Joe loved to fish. He frequently fished the White River and other local fishing holes. He was a gourmet cook and was noted for his steaks, award winning chili, cheese balls, and diced skillet potatoes. Joe loved to eat hot and spicy foods. He took the hot and spicy challenge at the Mean Pig Barbeque in Cabot, Arkansas and almost completed it, but was shy by two bites. He was an advocate for pit bull dogs. His best friend and companion was his loyal dog, Bruiser. Joe loved his family, was a wonderful father, and loved Believers' Community Church.
Survivors include his parents, Philip and Toni Huss; grandmother, Martha Huss of Freemont, Ohio; fiancée, Ambra Michelle Huff of Batesville; a son, Joseph Alexander Huss of Batesville; and a baby on the way with his fianceé. He is also survived by three step-children: Kaycie Tarpley of Newark, Dakota Tarpley also of Newark, and Kierston Huff of Batesville; three sisters: Erica Leigh Huss Wallis of Batesville, Deanne Lynn Huss Boonstra and Leah Michelle Huss Carroll both of Chicago; nieces and nephews: Steven Boonstra, Charissa Boonstra, Brooke Boonstra, Shannon Carroll, Jack Carroll, Sean Carroll, Janelle Carroll, Colin Wallis, Kaiden Wallis, and Kolt Wallis; one great-nephew, Landen Slattery; and several aunts and uncles who loved and adored him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Alfred Axel & Edna Emile Bennett Sorenson; paternal grandfather, Philip B, "Smoky the Clown" Huss; an aunt, Marsha Huss; and his son, Joseph's mother, Jennye Wells.
Pallbearers will be Nicky Galatte, A. J. Trammel, Steven Boonstra, Ron Byers, Chris Wann, Nick Maggio, Tim Lampkin, and Eric Sessums. Honorary pallbearers are Davy Insell, Lorrin Richardson, Jim Busby, Glenn Snyder, Guy Dodge, John Michael Adcox, Nick Spivey, Steve Boonstra, Trevor Henley, Don Morrison, Gabriel Craig, Cody Craig, James Wells III, Ken "Chief" Stewart, Colin Wallis, Jack Carroll, Sean Carroll, and Fred Wann.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Believer's Community Church with David Insell officiating. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Joe, You are the best big brother and uncle to my kids that ANYONE could ask for. I love you so very much. Kaiden said he wanted to bury you in our backyard and Kolt said that he wanted a new Uncle Joe. I promise to never let your memories die with my boys or Joseph. I wish I could have done something to keep you busy on Saturday. I guess God just needed you there. I love you will all of my heart.

Joe, you were truly one of a kind. I'll never forget playing in the outfield with you. One night I remember asking you why you were having so much trouble catching fly balls. You said you couldn't see anything without your glasses. But, we both know you just can't wear glasses and play softball. Its a telling story about who you were as a man. You knew you couldn't do it, but that didn't stop you. It was just another challenge to tackle. Joe, you will be dearly missed. You were a fine man and I'm proud to have known you and to be called a friend. It will be a pleasure to see you again someday.

There are no words to describe how I feel knowing that you are no longer here with us. I can remember being 17-18 yrs old, and my mom having you spy on me or "keep tabs" as you called it,but you always told my mom what a good girl I was(thanks for that by the way!). You were always there if I found myself in a bind, which seemed to happen alot in my case. I always knew I was safe cause I knew you always had my back. You were a great person to talk
to, always gave me good advice. You were a wonderful person and a wonderful father. The world is a sadder place knowing we have lost you, but I am overjoyed knowing that I have a special angel on my side in heaven. I love you Chicago Joe. You will be greatly and sorely missed! Rest in Peace my friend.

The world has lost a good man and fishing guide. I have known and been friends with Joe for well over 30 years and am grateful that I was able call him my friend. Fishing will never be the same now that my fishing guide Cecil is no longer here to guide our trips to Arkansas. Nick and I used to make the yearly trip and I always tell everyone about my awesome trips to Mountain home and the white river. I still keep a picture Joe took at my desk from one of our trips and was reminded of how much fun we had on those trips every single day. He has helped me create the stories of my life that I look forward to someday telling my kids. Joe you are and always will be missed.
