James Maurice Tudor was born December 29, 1928 in Marshall, Arkansas, the first son of James R. and Lillian Massey Tudor. He died January 30, 2012 at the Methodist Village Nursing Home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. His daughter, Karen Stewart of Fort Smith was at his side.
His survivors include his daughter, Karen Stewart, two sons James Troy Tudor of Summit, Arkansas and James M. Tudor of Jacksonville, Florida. Also four grandsons and two granddaughters, along with two great grandchildren. Three brothers, Edward and Donald of Marshall and Bill Douglas of Belton, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ann Story of Clinton.
His career included many years as a journalist, photographer, editor and publisher. He worked at newspapers at Marshall, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mountain View, Arkansas, Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1952, he established the Stone County Leader in mountain View, and is known throughout the state in newspaper circles.
His contribution to preserving history in Searcy County was established when he published "The Crackerbarrel". It was a collection of photographs of people and events in the county as published in ;the Marshall Mountain Wave. When the publication sold out and became popular, he did "Crackerbarrel II". Both are now collector items.
He will be laid to rest beside his mother in Marshall Memorial Gardens Saturday, February 4. Visitation will be held at Roller-Coffman Chapel Friday from 5 to 7 pm. Chuck Stansbery of Dennard will conduct the services at the chapel Saturday at 10:00 am and at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Sid Lowrance, Danny Linn, Danny Story, Levon Standridge, Dr. Ron Hubbard and T.P. Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be George Daniel, Billy Joe Reid, Johnny Horton and Dennis Bowlin.
I have many great memories of my Grandfather and his friends and family in and around Marshall, AR when I was little. I will miss him greatly, as I think about him often. I am grateful to have known him and have the pleasure of visiting him in Marshall when I was young. He was full of life, kindness and joy. I thank all of you for your kind words about my Grandpa, it means a lot to me. God bless and thank you.
I enjoyed knowing Maurice very much. He did alot for Searcy Co. and he has been greatly missed since he moved away. May God Bless you all during this time.
Forever in my thoughts and prayers. He really was a colorful individual who lived a unique and interesting life. He gave a bit of himself to me, and I will always cherish it, What a keen wit he was!
Jimmy/Karen, I am so sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of your father from Boy Scout days when he would drive us to camporees and summer camp at Camp Orr. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. If you are interested, I am on Facebook occasionally.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss....The family are in my thoughts and prayers....Maurice was a very nice person....Tho I haven't seen him since I was a teenager....I remember his very friendly personality.....RIP Maurice.....

Maurice and his brothers were like one family growing up in Marshall. I feel as tough I've lost brother. Maurice was intelligent and very people-oriented. He is missed by all who knew him.
Sorry to hear this news. I've worked for the Stone County Leader for 25 years and I'm proud to be carrying on a tradition that Mr. Tudor started. Please accept my condolences on behalf of the entire Leader staff.
What a guy. I am sorry for his passing. He was a great photographer and even a better person. He will be missed. May God bless his family during their time of sorrow.
